Adds a title_bar.show_worktree_name setting (default: true) that hides
the worktree picker button in the title bar, mirroring how
show_branch_name gates the branch picker. The "/" separator only renders

The setting is hide-only: it deliberately does not join the

# Add status bar location for inline git blame
## Objective
- Closes#12133 by implementing the VS Code-like behavior for status bar
git blame
## Solution
Adds a VS Code–style option to render the current-line git blame in the
status bar instead of inline at the cursor.
Whats new
- A new location setting: Under the inline_blame configuration, you can
now choose between two options:
- `inline` (Default) — Keeps things exactly as they are, showing the
blame details at the end of your current line.
- `status_bar` — Moves the blame info down to the bottom status bar.
- The Status Bar Item: When you choose the status bar option, a clean
new button appears at the bottom left of your window. It features a Git
icon, the author's name, how long ago the change was made, and the
commit summary
- Behaves as it does before, but displayed at a different location
- Clicking the status bar item will instantly open up the full Git
commit details like at vscode
- Settings UI:
- The "Location" control is now a `DynamicItem` nested under "Enabled",
so it only appears when inline blame is enabled.
- Registers a dropdown renderer for `InlineBlameLocation`.
- Updates `all-settings.md` and `visual-customization.md` for the new
option.
## Testing
- Manually tested both modes by toggling `git.inline_blame.location`
between `inline` and `status_bar`:
- `inline` keeps the existing behavior unchanged.
- `status_bar` shows the blame for the focused line in the status bar,
hides the inline blame, updates on cursor movement, clears when no
editor is focused, and opens the blame commit on click.
- Verified the settings UI shows the "Location" dropdown only when
inline blame is enabled.
- Tested with `show_commit_summary` toggled when location is
`status_bar` (for inline location, nothing is changed)
Areas that could use more testing:
- Remote (collab) editors ?
Reviewers can test by setting the following in `settings.json` and
moving the cursor across blamed lines:
```json
{
"git": {
"inline_blame": {
"enabled": true,
"location": "status_bar"
}
}
}
```

Release Notes:
- Added a `git.inline_blame.location` setting to render current-line git
blame in the status bar instead of inline.
Add support for scaling the Markdown preview's body text and headings
with `cmd-=` / `cmd--` / `cmd-0`. Previously these shortcuts only
resized code blocks because the preview's body used `ui_font_size` and
headings used a rem-based scale anchored to it, while the keybindings
only mutated `BufferFontSize`.
The preview's scroll subtree is now wrapped in
`WithRemSize(buffer_font_size)`, so `1rem` resolves to the buffer font
size inside the preview. Body text, headings
(`text_3xl`/`text_2xl`/...), and rem-based spacing all scale together.
The outer focus root and scrollbar remain at the UI font size.

## Summary
This updates the Git Panel view controls so the panel can independently
model:
- whether entries are shown as a list or tree
- whether flat entries are sorted by path or name
- whether entries are grouped by status or shown as one combined set
It also keeps the Project Diff order consistent with the Git Panel,
including tree ordering, status grouping, and flat name/path sorting.
## Why This Is Useful
The previous sort_by_path boolean overloaded two separate ideas: sorting
and grouping. That made it hard to represent the view users actually
wanted, especially a single tree where tracked and untracked files are
not split into separate sections.
This change replaces that boolean with explicit enum settings:
- git_panel.sort_by: path or name
- git_panel.group_by: none or status
That keeps the settings mutually exclusive, easier to extend, and closer
to the UI model.
## Implementation Notes
- Adds a dedicated Git Panel View Options menu using the sliders icon.
- Moves view, sort, and group controls out of the overflow actions menu.
- Disables sort options in tree view because tree order is folder-first
rather than pure path/name sorting.
- Removes the Tracked heading when grouping is disabled.
- Keeps Git Panel tree expansion state when switching view options.
- Recomputes Project Diff sort prefixes from tree_view, sort_by, and
group_by so diff cards follow the same top-to-bottom order as the Git
Panel.
- Preserves Project Diff open/closed file state across view option
changes by carrying fold state by repo path instead of by synthetic sort
key.
- Updates settings UI renderers and docs for the new enum settings.

Instead of manually handing hiding the cursor on keyboard input at the
editor level, GPUI will now take care of it.
This makes it significantly easier to handle the edge cases, and allows
delegating the cursor restoration to the platform itself in the macOS
case. On Linux and Windows, we still have to restore the cursor on
movement ourselves, but this now happens at the platform-specific level.
Bugs fixed by this change:
- No cursor when "Unsaved edits" prompt appears
- Cursor disappears when clicking a panel button if it contains a search
bar (e.g. collab panel)
### Setting rename
The `hide_mouse` setting value `"on_typing_and_movement"` has been
renamed to `"on_typing_and_action"` to better reflect what it actually
does — it hides the cursor when a keystroke resolves to an action (e.g.
cursor movement, deletion). Existing settings are migrated
automatically.

Release Notes:
- Renamed the `hide_mouse` setting value `on_typing_and_movement` to
`on_typing_and_action` to better describe its behavior (existing
settings are auto-migrated)
- Fixed a few situations where the mouse cursor would be incorrectly
hidden
This PR makes Zed only have one worktree picker, as opposed to a flavor
of it in the title bar and another in the agent panel. It then moves it
to the title bar, making it always present, so that its trigger is
separate from the branch picker (which now contains only two views:
branches and stashes). For the worktree picker, I'm mostly favoring the
behavior we've introduced in the agent-panel-flavored version.
It also updates the title bar settings migration to use the JSON
`migrate_settings` helper instead of a shallow Tree-sitter rewrite, so
old `show_branch_icon = true` values are promoted to
`show_branch_status_icon = true` across root, platform, release-channel,
and profile settings scopes.
- [x] Move worktree creation logic to the `git_ui` crate to make this
more generic and less agent-specific
- [x] Double-check the remote use case and ensure nothing broke there
- [x] Improve the UX for the detached HEAD state; better invite people
to create a branch
- [x] Migrate `show_branch_icon = true` to `show_branch_status_icon =
true` across nested settings scopes
Suggested .rules additions
When migrating renamed settings keys that can appear in platform
overrides, release-channel overrides, or profiles, prefer the JSON
`migrations::migrate_settings` helper over shallow Tree-sitter key
rewrites unless tests explicitly cover every nested scope that can
contain the key.
Release Notes:
- Improved migration of the title bar branch status icon setting.

This setting brings Zed in parity with Sublime's `bold_folder_labels`.
The settings does just that, it makes directory labels bold. This
setting is
particularly useful for those who turn icons off, but do need a visual
queue (besides the chevron) to quickly tell apart files and folders.
Note: This PR depends on
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/47629.
Otherwise, the setting will appear to have no uneffect (unless you're
using a custom UI font). ZedSans has "bold" today, but that's too thick
for the project panel.

Release Notes:
- Added `project_panel.bold_folder_labels` to show folder names with
bold text in the project panel (defaults to `false`).
## Context / Related PRs This PR is the third part of the encoding
support improvements, following:
- #44819: Introduced initial legacy encoding support (Shift-JIS, etc.).
- #45243: Fixed UTF-16 saving behavior and improved binary detection.
## Summary
This PR implements a status bar item that displays the character
encoding of the active buffer (e.g., `UTF-8`, `Shift_JIS`). It provides
visibility into the file's encoding and indicates the presence of a Byte
Order Mark (BOM).
## Features
- **Encoding Indicator**: Displays the encoding name in the status bar.
- **BOM Support**: Appends `(BOM)` to the encoding name if a BOM is
detected (e.g., `UTF-8 (BOM)`).
- **Configuration**: The active_encoding_button setting in status_bar
accepts "enabled", "disabled", or "non_utf8". The default is "non_utf8",
which displays the indicator for all encodings except standard UTF-8
(without BOM).
- **Settings UI**: Provides a dropdown menu in the Settings UI to
control this behavior.
- **Documentation**: Updated `configuring-zed.md` and
`visual-customization.md`.
## Implementation Details
- Created `ActiveBufferEncoding` component in
`crates/encoding_selector`.
- The click handler for the button is currently a **no-op**.
Implementing the functionality to reopen files with a specific encoding
has potential implications for real-time collaboration (e.g., syncing
buffer interpretation across peers). Therefore, this PR focuses strictly
on the visualization and configuration aspects to keep the scope simple
and focused.
- Updated schema and default settings to include
`active_encoding_button`.
## Screenshots

src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ed76daa2-2733-484f-bb1f-4688357c035a"
/>
## Configuration
To hide the button, add the following to `settings.json`:
```json
"status_bar": {
"active_encoding_button": "disabled"
}
```
- **enabled**: Always show the encoding.
- **disabled**: Never show the encoding.
- **non_utf8**: Shows for non-UTF-8 encodings and UTF-8 with BOM. Only
hides for standard UTF-8 (Default).
<img width="1347" height="415" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/7f4f4938-3320-4d21-852c-53ee886d9a44"
/>
## Heuristic Limitations:
The underlying detection logic (implemented in #44819 and #45243)
prioritizes UTF-8 opening performance and does not guarantee perfect
detection for all encodings. We consider this margin of error
acceptable, similar to the behavior seen in VS Code. A future "Reopen
with Encoding" feature would serve as the primary fallback for any
misdetections.
Release Notes:
- Added a status bar item to display the active file's character encoding (e.g. `UTF-16`). This shows for non-utf8 files by default and can be configured with `{"status_bar":{"active_encoding_button":"disabled|enabled|non_utf8"}}`
Closes#44417
Release Notes:
- Added a setting `show_user_menu` (defaulting to true) which shows or
hides the user menu (the one with the user avatar) in title bar.

Closes#4533 (partly at least)
Release Notes:
- Added `project_panel.sort_mode` option to control explorer file sort
(directories first, mixed, files first)
## Summary
Adds three sorting modes for the project panel to give users more
control over how files and directories are displayed:
- **`directories_first`** (default): Current behaviour - directories
grouped before files
- **`mixed`**: Files and directories sorted together alphabetically
- **`files_first`**: filed grouped before directories
## Motivation
Users coming from different editors and file managers have different
expectations for file sorting. Some prefer directories grouped at the
top (traditional), while others prefer the macOS Finder-style mixed
sorting where "Apple1/", "apple2.tsx" and "Apple3/" appear
alphabetically mixed together.

## Add relative line numbers on wrapped lines, take 2
This is a rework of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/39268
that excludes
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/39268/commits/e7096d27a6463f6eb7c2a821637c5773b2460c10.
This commit introduced some line number rendering issues as described in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/41422.
While @ConradIrwin suggested we try to pass in the buffer rows from the
calling method instead of the snapshot, that
appears to have had unintended consequences and I don't think the two
calculations were intended to do the same thing. Hence, this PR has
removed those changes.
This PR also includes the migration fix originally done by @MrSubidubi
in https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/41351.
## Original PR description and release notes.
**Problem:** Current relative line numbering creates a mismatch with
vim-style navigation when soft wrap is enabled. Users must mentally
calculate whether target lines are wrapped segments or logical lines,
making `<n>j/k` navigation unreliable and cognitively demanding.
**How things work today:**
- Real line navigation (`j/k` moves by logical lines): Requires
determining if visible lines are wrapped segments before jumping. Can't
jump to wrapped lines directly.
- Display line navigation (`j/k` moves by display rows): Line numbers
don't correspond to actual row distances for multi-line jumps.
**Proposed solution:** Count and number each display line (including
wrapped segments) for relative numbering. This creates direct
visual-to-navigational correspondence, where the relative number shown
always matches the `<n>j/k` distance needed.
**Benefits:**
- Eliminates mental overhead of distinguishing wrapped vs. logical lines
- Makes relative line numbers consistently actionable regardless of wrap
state
- Preserves intuitive "what you see is what you navigate" principle
- Maintains vim workflow efficiency in narrow window scenarios
Also explained and discussed in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/25733.
Release Notes:
- Added support for counting wrapped lines as relative lines and for
displaying line numbers for wrapped segments. Changes
`relative_line_numbers` from a boolean to an enum: `enabled`,

Release Notes:
- editor: Add `editor.completion_menu_scrollbar` setting to show a
scrollbar in the completion menu
Some housekeeping updates:
- Update hardcoded actions/keybindings so they're pulled from the repo
- Mention settings window when useful
- Add more info about agent panel's font size
- Break sentences in individual lines

Closes#41422
This completely broke line numbering as described in the linked issue
and scrolling up does not have the correct numbers any more.
Release Notes:
- NOTE: The `relative_line_numbers` change
(https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/39268) was reverted and did
not make the release cut!
This creates direct
visual-to-navigational correspondence where the relative number shown
always matches the `<n>j/k` distance needed.

Release Notes:
- Added support for counting wrapped lines as relative lines and for
displaying line numbers for wrapped segments. Changes
`relative_line_numbers` from a boolean to an enum: `enabled`,
`disabled`, or `wrapped`.

The suggested `→` appears tiny, and almost looks like just a dot on my
monitor, and I got quite confused for a while thinking the
`whitespace_map.tab` setting wasn't working properly.

I think it would be really helpful if `⟶` was suggested instead since
that displays properly.

I am using `Fira Code` as my font on windows, however when I remove that
config to get the default font, it also still appears the same size. So
I don't believe this is just a font issue on my machine.
Thought I am using Windows, so I would be willing to believe this a
render issue specific to windows

Closes#5294
This PR adds a line ending indicator to the status bar, hidden by
default as discussed in
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/5294.
### Changes
- 8b063a22d8700bed9c93989b9e0f6a064b2e86cf add the indicator and
`status_bar.line_endings_button` setting.
- ~~9926237b709dd4e25ce58d558fd385d63b405f3b changes
`status_bar.line_endings_button` from a boolean to an enum:~~
<details> <summary> show details </summary>
- `always` Always show line endings indicator.
- `non_native` Indicate when line endings do not match the current
platform.
- `lf_only` Indicate when using unix-style (LF) line endings only.
- `crlf_only` Indicate when using windows-style (CRLF) line endings
only.
- `never` Do not show line endings indicator.
I know this many options might be overdoing it, but I was torn between
the pleasant default of `non_native` and the simplicity of `lf_only` /
`crlf_only`.
My thinking was if one is developing on a project which exclusively uses
one line-ending style or the other, it would be nice to be able to
configure no-indicator-in-the-happy-case behavior regardless of the
platform zed is running on. But I'm not really familiar with any
projects that use exclusively CRLF line endings in practice. Is this a
scenario worth supporting or just something I dreamed up?

- 01174191e4cf337069e7a31b0f0432ae94c52515 rename the action context for
`line ending: Toggle` -> `line ending selector: Toggle`.
When running the action in the command palette with the old name I felt
surprised to be greeted with an additional menu, with the new name it
feels more predictable (plus now it matches
`language_selector::Toggle`!)
### Future work
Hidden status bar items still get padding, creating inconsistent spacing
(and it kind of stands out where I placed the line-endings button):
<img alt="the gap after the indicator is larger than for other buttons"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/24a346d4-3ff6-4f7f-bd87-64d453c2441a"
/>
I started a new follow-up PR to address that:
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/39992
Release Notes:
- Added line ending indicator to the status bar (disabled by default;
enabled by setting `status_bar.line_endings_button` to `true`)
Closes#5185
Release Notes:
- Added an option to hide hidden files in the project panel by setting
`hide_hidden` in the project panel settings.

Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/38547
Release Notes:
- Reverted the ability to show/hide the titlebar. This caused rendering
bugs on
macOS, and we're preparing for the redesign which requires the toolbar
being present.

Just install Zed for the first time and got a warning from the first
config example i copied from docs.
Great design btw, immediately able to see that this is a well thought
out app. seems like i'll stick with zed and make it my new dev

Closes #ISSUE
Adds handling for Enums with fields (i.e. not `enum Foo { Yes, No }`) in
Settings UI. Accomplished by creating default values for each element
with fields (in the derive macro), and rendering a toggle button group
with a button for each variant where switching the active variant sets
the value in the settings JSON to the default for the new active
variant.

At RustConf we were demo'ing zed, and it continually popped open the
chat panel.
We're usually inured to this because the Chat panel doesn't open unless
a Guest
is in the channel, but it made me sad that we were showing a long stream
of
vacuous comments and unresponded to questions on every demo screen.
We may bring chat back in the future, but we need more thought on the
UX, and
we need to rebuild the backend to not use the existing collab server
that we're
trying to move off of.
Release Notes:
- Removed the chat feature from Zed (Sorry to the 5 of you who use this
on the regular!)
