6f99bff205 editor: In OpenFile check if file with path_suffix exists (#17805)
Demo:

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/6acb6c1e-bb15-4205-9dcb-2aa4bb99dcf9

Release Notes:

- When using `OpenFile` (`gf` in Vim mode) and the word under the cursor
is not an existing file path, we now fall back and additionally check
whether a file called
`<word-under-cursor>.<language-specific-path-suffixes>` exists. That's
similar to Vim's `suffixesadd` option.

Jeroen van Baarsen ee4f7f9c6d Add option to set split direction (#16345)
This adds an option to set the split direction for both the horizontal
splits, and the vertical splits.

A couple of things to look for when reviewing:

* The `derive` keywords on the Enums were copy pasted, no clue what they
should be
* Tried adding tests for this, but got stuck.

Conrad Irwin 77381ae545 vim: Improve lifecycle (#16477)
Closes #13579

A major painpoint in the Vim crate has been life-cycle management. We
used to have one global Vim instance that tried to track per-editor
state; this led to a number of subtle issues (e.g. #13579, the mode
indicator being global, and quick toggling between windows letting vim
mode's notion of the active editor get out of sync).

This PR changes the internal structure of the code so that there is now
one `Vim` instance per `Editor` (stored as an `Addon`); and the global
stuff is separated out. This fixes the above problems, and tidies up a
bunch of the mess in the codebase.

Release Notes:

* vim: Fixed accidental visual mode in project search and go to
references
([#13579](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/13579)).

Conrad Irwin 45861f9757 vim: Support ranges in command (#15985)
The most requested feature here is "search and replace in visual mode",
but as a happy side effect we can now support things like :2,12j to join
those lines, and much much more.

- vim: Added support for range syntax in command
([#9428](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/9428)).
- vim: Prefill command with `:'<,'>` from visual mode
([#13535](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/13535)).

Conrad Irwin 988e39ce6f vim test redux (#11709)
This cleans up the neovim-backed vim tests:
- removed exempted tests (we'll rely on bug reports to find missing edge
cases)
- moved all assertions into non-async fn's so that failures are
reporting on the right file/line
- removed the NeovimBackedBindingTestContext
- renamed a few things to make them clearer
- reduced the number of permutations tested in some cases to reduce
slowest test from 60s to 5s

cf930d26ca Add initial support for defining language server adapters in WebAssembly-based extensions (#8645)
This PR adds **internal** ability to run arbitrary language servers via
WebAssembly extensions. The functionality isn't exposed yet - we're just
landing this in this early state because there have been a lot of
changes to the `LspAdapter` trait, and other language server logic.

## Next steps

* Currently, wasm extensions can only define how to *install* and run a
language server, they can't yet implement the other LSP adapter methods,
such as formatting completion labels and workspace symbols.
* We don't have an automatic way to install or develop these types of
extensions
* We don't have a way to package these types of extensions in our
extensions repo, to make them available via our extensions API.
* The Rust extension API crate, `zed-extension-api` has not yet been
published to crates.io, because we still consider the API a work in
progress.

riccardofanoandConrad Irwin a252efe3d6 Add :tabonly and :only vim commands (#8337)
Release Notes:

- Added
[`:tabo[nly][!]`](https://neovim.io/doc/user/tabpage.html#%3Atabonly),
closes all the tabs except the active one but in the current pane only,
every other split pane remains unaffected.
The version with the `!` force closes the tabs while the one without
asks you to save or discard the changes.
- Added [`:on[ly][!]`](https://neovim.io/doc/user/windows.html#%3Aonly),
closes all the tabs *and* panes except the active one.
The version with the `!` force closes the tabs while the one without
asks you to save or discard the changes.
Since Zed does not have different splits per tab like in Neovim `:only`
works the same as it does in VscodeVim.

Marshall Bowers 91e19d864e Add command_palette_hooks crate (#8398)
This PR introduces a new `command_palette_hooks` crate that contains the
types used to hook into the behavior of the command palette.

The `CommandPaletteFilter` was previously extracted to the `copilot`
crate in #7095, solely because that was the earliest ancestor of the
crates that depended on it.

The `CommandPaletteInterceptor` was still defined in `command_palette`
itself.

Both of these types were consumed by other crates wanting to influence
the behavior of the command palette, but required taking a dependency on
the entire `command_palette` crate in order to gain access to these
hooks.

By moving them out into their own crate, we can improve the compile
order and make crates like `vim` able to begin building sooner without
having to wait for `command_palette` to finish compiling.

Here's a comparison of the compilation graph before and after (ignore
the timings):
