Fetch tag names for commits included in blame data and pass them through
the blame rendering path. Render tag names as chips in the blame hover
tooltip and expanded blame popover. Tag lookup is best-effort, so blame
still renders if tag lookup fails.
> Note: Tag names are currently only fetched for local repositories. For
remote projects (SSH) and collab sessions, blame data travels over the
`BlameBufferResponse` proto message, which doesn't carry tag names yet.
## Testing
- `cargo test -p git
test_parse_tag_names_for_lightweight_and_annotated_tags`
- `cargo check -p git_ui`
- `cargo check -p editor`
- `cargo check -p project`
Manual testing:
- Opened `git: blame` on a file with a tagged commit.
- Verified tag chips are shown in the blame hover tooltip and expanded
popover.

Fixes hardcoded SHA lengths not using the `SHORT_SHA_LENGTH` constant.
Release Notes:
- Reduced short commit SHAs in blame and commit tooltips from 8 to 7 -
consistent with the graph and history views.
Selecting text inside the hover documentation or git popups did not
scroll the popup when the drag passed the visible area, so any text
below the area could not be selected with the mouse.
The popup's container already had a `ScrollHandle` wired to its
scrollbar and wheel scrolling, but the inner `MarkdownElement` was
constructed without one. That left it in the default
`AutoscrollBehavior::Propagate` mode, which routes drag-autoscroll
requests to the editor-wide autoscroll listener, which is a listener
that does not exist inside a floating popover, so the requests were
silently dropped.
Passing the popup's existing `ScrollHandle` into the `MarkdownElement`
switches it to `AutoscrollBehavior::Controlled`, which scrolls the
popup's own container directly during a drag. The markdown preview view
already uses this same pattern.

- Fixed hover documentation and git popups not scrolling while selecting
text with the mouse

We had a problem that became more evident to me in the newly-introduced
History tab in the Git panel where the avatars wouldn't show up for a
long time. Problem was that we were trying to render the avatar before
the GitHub user email came in, and that wouldn't work well because it
would 1) skip the fast CDN (which could get rate-limited fast), and 2)
cache the `None` result. So this improvement works by only attempting to
render the avatar when the email is available.
Release Notes:
- Git UI: Improve the display of user avatars in Git-related surfaces.
This PR adds a history view to the git panel. It draws from similar
implementations of commit listing in other places like the file history
view and the git graph.

Closes #ISSUE
Release Notes:
- N/A
Previously, if you wanted to have a button that contains icons on both
edges, you'd need to use a `ButtonLike` component, which takes any
children. Meanwhile, the `Button` would only take one icon, where you
could control its position through the `IconPosition` enum. This has
always felt unnecessarily limiting. So, this PR removes this limitation
by adding two new methods to the button: `start_icon` and `end_icon`.
In the meantime, I have also been bothered by the unnecessary
indirection in the `IconButton` due to the existence of the `ButtonIcon`
component. So I figured I could also completely eliminate that by adding
some of its methods directly to the `IconButton` and in the Button, just
using a regular `Icon` component.
---
## Before
```rust
Button::new("id", "Label")
.icon(IconName::Plus)
.icon_position(IconPosition::Start)
.icon_size(IconSize::Small)
.icon_color(Color::Muted)
```
## After
```rust
Button::new("id", "Label")
.start_icon(Icon::new(IconName::Check))
.end_icon(Icon::new(IconName::ChevronDown).size(IconSize::XSmall))
```
This should have no visual impact to the UI.

- Made hover/active styles, as well as clicks, work for the entire row,
capture the graph element, too (needed to make some manual hover and
other states management to pull that off)
- Used the existing `Chip` component for the branch chip instead of a
local recreation
- Adjusted spacing and sizing of commit detail panel, including button
labels truncation and tooltip content
- Added diff stat numbers for the changed files, to match the commit
view
- Standardized the commit avatar component across the git graph, the
commit view, and the file history view
- Added scrollbar to the changed files uniform list
- Removed author name display redundancy (kept only email)
- Made the commit detail UI have a min-width

GitHub's commit API endpoint is rate limited to 60 requests/hour for
unauthenticated users. This causes avatar loading to fail after toggling
blame a few times.
This PR uses GitHub's CDN avatar endpoint
`https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/e?email={email}&s=128` instead,
which doesn't count against API rate limits. The author email is already
available from local git data (blame output), so
no API calls are needed.
- When author email is available, constructs the CDN URL directly (zero
API calls)
- Falls back to existing API-based behavior when email is unavailable
- Adds unit tests for URL construction
Closes#47590
## Test plan
- [x] `./script/clippy` passes
- [x] `cargo test -p git_hosting_providers` passes (89 tests including 3
new ones i added)
- [ ] Manual test: Open a file, toggle git blame, verify avatars load
without hitting rate limits
Release Notes:
- Fixed GitHub avatar rate limiting in git blame by using CDN endpoint
instead of API calls (#47590)
This PR improves the performance of the `CopyButton` component by
tracking the copied state locally through a `CopyButtonState` struct
instead of making an OS call every time the component re-renders. Also
pushing a slight improvement here by resetting the state after two
seconds so as to make the check mark go away after you clicked to copy.
Release Notes:

There were several places adding a copy icon button, so thought of
encapsulating the logic to copy a given string into the clipboard (and
other small details like swapping the icon and tooltip if copied) into a
component, making it easier to introduce this sort of functionality in
the future, with fewer lines of code.
All it takes (for the simplest case) is:
```rs
CopyButton::new(your_message)
```

Closes#26424
Supersedes #35328
Originally, `git::blame` uses its own `ParsedCommitMessage` as the
source for the commit information, including the PR section. This
changes unifies this with `git::repository` and `git_ui::git_panel` by
moving this and some other commit-related structs to `git::commit`
instead, and making both `git_ui::blame_ui` and `git_ui::git_panel` pull
their information from these structs.
Release notes :
- (Let's Git Together) Fixed the commit tooltip in the git panel not
showing information like avatars.

- Updated `blame_ui.rs`, `branch_picker.rs`, `commit_tooltip.rs`, and
`commit_view.rs` to replace the previous timestamp formatting with
`chrono` for better accuracy in local time representation.
- Introduced `chrono::Local::now().offset().local_minus_utc()` to obtain
the local offset for timestamp formatting.
Closes#40878
Release Notes:
- Improved timestamp handling in various Git UI components for enhanced
user experience.
Continues the work from #35927 to add a git diff view for stash entries.
[Screencast From 2025-09-17

Stash entries are [represented as
commits](https://git-scm.com/docs/git-stash#_discussion) except they
have up to 3 parents:
```
.----W (this is the stash entry)
/ /|
-----H----I |
\|
U
```
Where `H` is the `HEAD` commit, `I` is a commit that records the state
of the index, and `U` is another commit that records untracked files
(when using `git stash -u`).
Given this, I modified the existing commit view struct to allow loading
stash and commits entries with git sha identifier so that we can get a
similar git diff view for both of them.
The stash diff is generated by comparing the stash commit with its
parent (`<commit>^` or `H` in the diagram) which generates the same diff
as doing `git stash show -p <stash entry>`. This *can* be
counter-intuitive since a user may expect the comparison to be made
between the stash commit and the current commit (`HEAD`), but given that
the default behavior in git cli is to compare with the stash parent, I
went for that approach.
Hoping to get some feedback from a Zed team member to see if they agree
with this approach.
Release Notes:
- Add git diff view for stash entries
- Add toolbar on git diff view for stash entries
- Prompt before executing a destructive stash action on diff view
- Fix commit view for merge commits (see #38289)
This removes around 900 unnecessary clones, ranging from cloning a few
ints all the way to large data structures and images.
A lot of these were fixed using `cargo clippy --fix --workspace
--all-targets`, however it often breaks other lints and needs to be run
again. This was then followed up with some manual fixing.
I understand this is a large diff, but all the changes are pretty
trivial. Rust is doing some heavy lifting here for us. Once I get it up
to speed with main, I'd appreciate this getting merged rather sooner
than later.

WIP!
In light of having more control over blame popover from editor.
This fixes: https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/28645,
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/26304
- [x] Initial rendering
- [x] Handle smart positioning (edge detection, etc)
- [x] Delayed hovering, release, etc
- [x] Test blame message selection
- [x] Fix tagged issues
Release Notes:
- Git inline blame popover now dismisses when the cursor is moved, the
editor is scrolled, or the command palette is opened.
This PR removes the retained `MarkdownStyle` on the `Markdown` entity in
favor of using the `MarkdownElement` directly and passing the
`MarkdownStyle` to it.
This makes it so switching themes will be reflected live in the code
block styles.

This PR adds functionality for loading the diff for an arbitrary git
commit, and displaying it in a tab. To retrieve the diff for the commit,
I'm using a single `git cat-file --batch` invocation to efficiently load
both the old and new versions of each file that was changed in the
commit.
