Dino e615335e9d git_ui: Always display "Create Pull Request" button on push toast (#53913)
Update the toast shown after running `git: push` so as to always include
a button to create a pull request for the current branch.

We used to only do this on the initial push, as that is when the output
of running `git push` would include an URL that could be used to create
the Pull Request. However, since we now have a `git: create pull
request`, we can always build this URL, meaning we no longer need to
rely on the command's output in order to display the "Create Pull
Request" button.

Something worth noting is that the
`git_ui::remote_output::format_output` function used to also match on
Bitbucket's terminal output, so these changes include the implementation
of `GitHostingProvider::build_create_pull_request_url` for the
`Bitbucket` provider.

littleKitchen 603a20baea Implement extract_pull_request for GitLab provider (#47973)
Fixes #38709

## Summary
This implements the `extract_pull_request` method for GitLab's
`GitHostingProvider` trait, enabling merge request links to be shown in
the git blame hover popover.

## Implementation
The implementation parses GitLab MR references from commit messages
using a regex that matches two common patterns:

1. **Squash merge pattern**: `message (!123)` - When GitLab
squash-merges, it appends the MR number in parentheses
2. **Standard merge commit**: `See merge request group/project!123` -
The default merge commit message

## Tests Added
- `test_extract_merge_request_from_squash_commit` - Validates the
`(!123)` pattern
- `test_extract_merge_request_from_merge_commit` - Validates the `See
merge request` pattern
- `test_extract_merge_request_self_hosted` - Ensures it works with
self-hosted GitLab instances
- `test_extract_merge_request_no_match` - Confirms None is returned for
non-matching messages

## Related
This follows the same pattern as the GitHub provider implementation.

## Release Notes

- Added support for GitLab merge request links in git blame hover
popover

Augustus Otu 0edece5640 git: Use CDN endpoint for GitHub avatars to avoid rate limiting (#47894)
GitHub's commit API endpoint is rate limited to 60 requests/hour for
unauthenticated users. This causes avatar loading to fail after toggling
blame a few times.

This PR uses GitHub's CDN avatar endpoint
`https://avatars.githubusercontent.com/u/e?email={email}&s=128` instead,
which doesn't count against API rate limits. The author email is already
available from local git data (blame output), so
  no API calls are needed.

- When author email is available, constructs the CDN URL directly (zero
API calls)
  - Falls back to existing API-based behavior when email is unavailable
  - Adds unit tests for URL construction

  ## Test plan
  - [x] `./script/clippy` passes
- [x] `cargo test -p git_hosting_providers` passes (89 tests including 3
new ones i added)
- [ ] Manual test: Open a file, toggle git blame, verify avatars load
without hitting rate limits

ᴀᴍᴛᴏᴀᴇʀ f82344caee git: Improve self-hosted provider support and Bitbucket integration (#42343)
This PR includes several minor modifications and improvements related to
Git hosting providers, covering the following areas:

1. Bitbucket Owner Parsing Fix: Remove the common `scm` prefix from the
remote URL of self-hosted Bitbucket instances to prevent incorrect owner
parsing.

ᴀᴍᴛᴏᴀᴇʀ 75ba5b3df8 Support Forgejo and Gitea avatars in git blame (#41813)
Part of #11043.

Codeberg is a public instance of Forgejo, as confirmed by the API
documentation at https://codeberg.org/api/swagger. Therefore, I renamed
the related component from codeberg to forgejo and added codeberg.org as
a public instance.

Furthermore, to optimize request speed for the commit API, I set
`stat=false&verification=false&files=false`.

Regarding Gitea Support:

Forgejo is a fork of Gitea, and their APIs are currently identical
(e.g., for getting avatars). However, to future-proof against potential
API divergence, I decided to treat them as separate entities. The
current gitea implementation is essentially a copy of the forgejo file
with the relevant type names and the public instance URL updated.

Julia Ryan 5a5b5ae2bb Remove workspace-hack (#40216)
We've been considering removing workspace-hack for a couple reasons:
- Lukas ran into a situation where its build script seemed to be causing
spurious rebuilds. This seems more likely to be a cargo bug than an
issue with workspace-hack itself (given that it has an empty build
script), but we don't necessarily want to take the time to hunt that
down right now.
- Marshall mentioned hakari interacts poorly with automated crate
updates (in our case provided by rennovate) because you'd need to have
`cargo hakari generate && cargo hakari manage-deps` after their changes
and we prefer to not have actions that make commits.

Currently removing workspace-hack causes our workspace to grow from
~1700 to ~2000 crates being built (depending on platform), which is
mainly a problem when you're building the whole workspace or running
tests across the the normal and remote binaries (which is where
feature-unification nets us the most sharing). It doesn't impact
incremental times noticeably when you're just iterating on `-p zed`, and
we'll hopefully get these savings back in the future when
rust-lang/cargo#14774 (which re-implements the functionality of hakari)
is finished.

Piotr Osiewicz 65054e8764 Use serde 1.0.221 instead of serde_derive hackery (#38137)
serde 1.0.221 introduced serde_core into the build graph, which should
render explicitly depending on serde_derive for faster build times an
obsolote method.

Besides, I'm not even sure if that worked for us. My hunch is that at
least one of our deps would have `serde` with derive feature enabled..
and then, most of the crates using `serde_derive` explicitly were also
depending on gpui, which depended on `serde`.. thus, we wouldn't have
gained anything from explicit dep on `serde_derive`

Anthony EidandBen Kunkle f666cf69ff settings ui: Create settings key trait (#37489)
This PR separates out the associated constant `KEY` from the `Settings`
trait into a new trait `SettingsKey`. This allows for the key trait to
be derived using attributes to specify the path so that the new
`SettingsUi` derive macro can use the same attributes to determine top
level settings paths thereby removing the need to duplicate the path in
both `Settings::KEY` and `#[settings_ui(path = "...")]`

Anthony EidandBen Kunkle 0281089c14 settings ui: Start work on creating the initial structure (#36904)
## Goal

This PR creates the initial settings ui structure with the primary goal
of making a settings UI that is
- Comprehensive: All settings are available through the UI
- Correct: Easy to understand the underlying JSON file from the UI
- Intuitive
- Easy to implement per setting so that UI is not a hindrance to future
settings changes

### Structure

The overall structure is settings layer -> data layer -> ui layer.

The settings layer is the pre-existing settings definitions, that
implement the `Settings` trait. The data layer is constructed from
settings primarily through the `SettingsUi` trait, and it's associated
derive macro. The data layer tracks the grouping of the settings, the
json path of the settings, and a data representation of how to render
the controls for the setting in the UI, that is either a marker value
for the component to use (avoiding a dependency on the `ui` crate) or a
custom render function.

Abstracting the data layer from the ui layer allows crates depending on
`settings` to implement their own UI without having to add additional UI
dependencies, thus avoiding circular dependencies. In cases where custom
UI is desired, and a creating a custom render function in the same crate
is infeasible due to circular dependencies, the current solution is to
implement a marker for the component in the `settings` crate, and then
handle the rendering of that component in `settings_ui`.

### Foundation

This PR creates a macro and a trait both called `SettingsUi`. The
`SettingsUi` trait is added as a new trait bound on the `Settings`
trait, this allows the type system to guarantee that all settings
implement UI functionality. The macro is used to derived the trait for
most types, and can be modified through attributes for unique cases as
well.

A derive-macro is used to generate the settings UI trait impl, allowing
it the UI generation to be generated from the static information in our
code base (`default.json`, Struct/Enum names, field names, `serde`
attributes, etc). This allows the UI to be auto-generated for the most
part, and ensures consistency across the UI.

#### Immediate Follow ups

- Add a new `SettingsPath` trait that will be a trait bound on
`SettingsUi` and `Settings`
- This trait will replace the `Settings::key` value to enable
`SettingsUi` to infer the json path of it's derived type
- Figure out how to render `Option<T> where T: SettingsUi` correctly
- Handle `serde` attributes in the `SettingsUi` proc macro to correctly
get json path from a type's field and identity

Kirill Bulatov 6f2725844a Use anyhow more idiomatically (#31052)
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/30972 brought up another
case where our context is not enough to track the actual source of the
issue: we get a general top-level error without inner error.

The reason for this was `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("failed to read HEAD
SHA"))?; ` on the top level.

The PR finally reworks the way we use anyhow to reduce such issues (or
at least make it simpler to bubble them up later in a fix).
On top of that, uses a few more anyhow methods for better readability.

* `.ok_or_else(|| anyhow!("..."))`, `map_err` and other similar error
conversion/option reporting cases are replaced with `context` and
`with_context` calls
* in addition to that, various `anyhow!("failed to do ...")` are
stripped with `.context("Doing ...")` messages instead to remove the
parasitic `failed to` text
* `anyhow::ensure!` is used instead of `if ... { return Err(...); }`
calls
* `anyhow::bail!` is used instead of `return Err(anyhow!(...));`

3a79e48014 VSCode Settings import (#29018)
Things this doesn't currently handle:

- [x] ~testing~
- ~we really need an snapshot test that takes a vscode settings file
with all options that we support, and verifies the zed settings file you
get from importing it, both from an empty starting file or one with lots
of conflicts. that way we can open said vscode settings file in vscode
to ensure that those options all still exist in the future.~
- Discussed this, we don't think this will meaningfully protect us from
future failures, and we will just do this as a manual validation step
before merging this PR. Any imports that have meaningfully complex
translation steps should still be tested.
- [x] confirmation (right now it just clobbers your settings file
silently)
- it'd be really cool if we could show a diff multibuffer of your
current settings with the result of the vscode import and let you pick
"hunks" to keep, but that's probably too much effort for this feature,
especially given that we expect most of the people using it to have an
empty/barebones zed config when they run the import.
- [x] ~UI in the "welcome" page~
- we're planning on redoing our welcome/walkthrough experience anyways,
but in the meantime it'd be nice to conditionally show a button there if
we see a user level vscode config
- we'll add it to the UI when we land the new walkthrough experience,
for now it'll be accessible through the action
- [ ] project-specific settings
- handling translation of `.vscode/settings.json` or `.code-workspace`
settings to `.zed/settings.json` will come in a future PR, along with UI
to prompt the user for those actions when opening a project with local
vscode settings for the first time
- [ ] extension settings
- we probably want to do a best-effort pass of popular extensions like
vim and git lens
- it's also possible to look for installed/enabled extensions with `code
--list-extensions`, but we'd have to maintain some sort of mapping of
those to our settings and/or extensions
- [ ] LSP settings
- these are tricky without access to the json schemas for various
language server extensions. we could probably manage to do translations
for a couple popular languages and avoid solving it in the general case.
- [ ] platform specific settings (`[macos].blah`)
  - this is blocked on #16392 which I'm hoping to address soon
- [ ] language specific settings (`[rust].foo`)
  - totally doable, just haven't gotten to it yet

~We may want to put this behind some kind of flag and/or not land it
until some of the above issues are addressed, given that we expect
people to only run this importer once there's an incentive to get it
right the first time. Maybe we land it alongside a keymap importer so
you don't have to go through separate imports for those?~

We are gonna land this as-is, all these unchecked items at the bottom
will be addressed in followup PRs, so maybe don't run the importer for
now if you have a large and complex VsCode settings file you'd like to
import.

Release Notes:

- Added a VSCode settings importer, available via a
`zed::ImportVsCodeSettings` action

ec4babbf14 Add workspace-hack (#27277)
This adds a "workspace-hack" crate, see
[mozilla's](https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/file/3a265fdc9f33e5946f0ca0a04af73acd7e6d1a39/build/workspace-hack/Cargo.toml#l7)
for a concise explanation of why this is useful. For us in practice this
means that if I were to run all the tests (`cargo nextest r
--workspace`) and then `cargo r`, all the deps from the previous cargo
command will be reused. Before this PR it would rebuild many deps due to
resolving different sets of features for them. For me this frequently
caused long rebuilds when things "should" already be cached.

To avoid manually maintaining our workspace-hack crate, we will use
[cargo hakari](https://docs.rs/cargo-hakari) to update the build files
when there's a necessary change. I've added a step to CI that checks
whether the workspace-hack crate is up to date, and instructs you to
re-run `script/update-workspace-hack` when it fails.

Finally, to make sure that people can still depend on crates in our
workspace without pulling in all the workspace deps, we use a `[patch]`
section following [hakari's
instructions](https://docs.rs/cargo-hakari/0.9.36/cargo_hakari/patch_directive/index.html)

One possible followup task would be making guppy use our
`rust-toolchain.toml` instead of having to duplicate that list in its
config, I opened an issue for that upstream: guppy-rs/guppy#481.

TODO:
- [x] Fix the extension test failure
- [x] Ensure the dev dependencies aren't being unified by Hakari into
the main dependencies

Nils KochandMarshall Bowers 6cd8f95898 Check if additional git provider is not the original git provider (#26533)
Release Notes:

- N/A

Yesterday I worked on https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/26482
and noticed afterwards that we have duplicated hosting providers if the
git remote host is "gitlab.com" and after the PR also for "github.com".
This is not a big problem, since the original providers are registered
first and therefore we first find a match with the original providers,
but I think we should address this nevertheless.

We initialize every hosting provider with the defaults here:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/b008b2863ee015a9dc6ecdcd6dedbc708983f8b3/crates/git_hosting_providers/src/git_hosting_providers.rs#L15-L24

After that, we also register additional hosting providers:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/b008b2863ee015a9dc6ecdcd6dedbc708983f8b3/crates/git_hosting_providers/src/git_hosting_providers.rs#L30-L43

If we do not check if the additional provider is not the original
provider, we will register the same provider twice.

I hope this is ok, but please let me know if you prefer me to open an

Release Notes:

- Add "copy permalink" action for self-hosted GitHub enterprise
instances

When you try to copy a permalink from a self-hosted GitHub enterprise
instance, you get the following error:

<img width="383" alt="permalink"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b32338a7-a2d7-48fc-86bf-ade1d32ed1f7"
/>

You also cannot open a PR or commit when you hover over a git blame:

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a5491ce7-270b-412f-b9ac-027ec020b028

### Reproduce
If you do not have access to a self-hosted GitHub instance, you can
change the remote url of any git repo:
```
git remote set-url origin git@github.mycorp.com:nilskch/zed.git
```

With the fix, permalinks still won't bring you to a valid website, but
you can verify that they are correctly created.

# Solution

Currently, we only support detecting self-hosted GitLab instances, but
not self-hosted GitHub instances. We detect GitLab instances by checking
if "gitlab" is part of the git URL.

This PR adds the same logic to detect self-hosted GitHub enterprise
instances (by checking if "github" is in the URL).

This solution is not ideal, since self-hosted GitHub or GitLab instances
might not contain the word "github" or "gitlab". #26393 proposes adding
a setting that would allow users to map specific domains to their
corresponding git provider types. This mapping would help Zed correctly
identify the appropriate git instance, even if "gitlab" or "github" are
not part of the URL.

This PR does not implement the offered solution, but I added a TODO
where the fix for #26393 has to make changes.

57ebc7334d Eliminate GPUI View, ViewContext, and WindowContext types (#22632)
There's still a bit more work to do on this, but this PR is compiling
(with warnings) after eliminating the key types. When the tasks below
are complete, this will be the new narrative for GPUI:

- `Entity<T>` - This replaces `View<T>`/`Model<T>`. It represents a unit
of state, and if `T` implements `Render`, then `Entity<T>` implements
`Element`.
- `&mut App` This replaces `AppContext` and represents the app.
- `&mut Context<T>` This replaces `ModelContext` and derefs to `App`. It
is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

Tasks:

- [x] Remove `View`, `ViewContext`, `WindowContext` and thread through
`Window`
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Redraw window when entities change
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Get examples and Zed running
- [x] [@cole-miller @mikayla-maki] Fix Zed rendering
- [x] [@mikayla-maki] Fix todo! macros and comments
- [x] Fix a bug where the editor would not be redrawn because of view
caching
- [x] remove publicness window.notify() and replace with
`AppContext::notify`
- [x] remove `observe_new_window_models`, replace with
`observe_new_models` with an optional window
- [x] Fix a bug where the project panel would not be redrawn because of
the wrong refresh() call being used
- [x] Fix the tests
- [x] Fix warnings by eliminating `Window` params or using `_`
- [x] Fix conflicts
- [x] Simplify generic code where possible
- [x] Rename types
- [ ] Update docs

### issues post merge

- [x] Issues switching between normal and insert mode
- [x] Assistant re-rendering failure
- [x] Vim test failures
- [x] Mac build issue

Marshall Bowers 8936a111d4 Make Git remote URL parsing more robust (#19924)
This PR improves the parsing of Git remote URLs in order to make
features that depend on them more robust.

Previously we were just treating these as plain strings and doing
one-off shotgun parsing to massage them into the right format. This
meant that we weren't accounting for edge cases in URL structure.

One of these cases was HTTPS Git URLs containing a username, which can
arise when using GitHub Enterprise (see
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/11160).

We now have a `RemoteUrl` typed to represent a parsed Git remote URL and
use the `Url` parser to parse it.

Release Notes:

- Improved the parsing of Git remote URLs to support additional
scenarios.

Marshall Bowers 444736f75b Add support for self-hosted GitLab instances for Git permalinks (#19909)
This PR adds support for self-hosted GitLab instances when generating
Git permalinks.

If the `origin` Git remote contains `gitlab` in the URL hostname we will
then attempt to register it as a self-hosted GitLab instance.

A note on this: I don't think relying on specific keywords is going to
be a suitable long-term solution to detection. In reality the
self-hosted instance could be hosted anywhere (e.g.,
`vcs.my-company.com`), so we will ultimately need a way to have the user
indicate which Git provider they are using (perhaps via a setting).

Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/18012.

Release Notes:

- Added support for self-hosted GitLab instances when generating Git
permalinks.
- The instance URL must have `gitlab` somewhere in the host in order to
be recognized.
