Follow-up to https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/60477Closes#25022
We have more places that need a similar synchronization before quitting
the app: restarts on update, reloading the workspace.
On top of it, two more findings:
* `on_app_will_quit` was redundant: the global `on_app_quit` hook
flushes a strict superset of the same tasks and runs before windows are
cleared, while the entity hook held only a weak handle and could never
flush the `Window`-dependent workspace state anyway.
* previously, shutdown was run as `cx.spawn`, yet main threads got
parked on app shutdown: now using `cx.background_spawn` instead

# Objective
Pressing the recent projects shortcut right after launching Zed opens
the picker, which then dismisses itself a moment later. The terminal
panel takes focus after the keystroke, and the picker cancels on blur.
## Solution
Two paths focused the panel unconditionally at the end of async startup
work: the tail of `TerminalPanel::restore_serialized_state`, and
`RevealStrategy::Always` in `add_terminal_shell` (which
`finish_restoration` uses to spawn the default shell). Both now check
`has_active_modal`, as `add_center_terminal` already did. For the shell
path the check is at reveal time, because the spawn is itself async.
## Testing
Three tests in `terminal_panel.rs`. Two of them fail with the source
change reverted. Manually tested on Linux.

Release Notes:
- Fixed the terminal panel dismissing an open modal when terminals
finish restoring during startup

After:

Previously, `TerminalPanel::load` awaited full deserialization of
serialized
terminals (each awaiting directory environment capture via a login
shell)
before the panel was registered in the dock.
Until then, `terminal_panel::Toggle{Focus}` was a silent no-op: the
workspace finds no
panel in any dock, the keystroke is eaten, and nothing happens.
When it got eventually restored, it would close whatever panel in the
dock was open manually instead, wrecking the workflow.
Repro:
1. Add `case "$ZSH_EXECUTION_STRING" in *--printenv*) sleep 10;; esac`
to `~/.zshrc`.
2. Open a project, open at least one terminal in the panel, quit Zed
(Cmd+Q).
3. Relaunch via Dock/Spotlight (not the `zed` CLI, which skips env
capture via
`cli_environment`).
4. Press the terminal shortcut within 10s: nothing happens; after ~10s
the
panel appears and the shortcut works.
* `Register terminal panel before restoring serialized terminals` — the
panel
is now created and registered immediately, and restoration runs in
panel-owned tasks (cancelled on panel drop, nothing detached).
Terminal-adding paths were initially queued behind restoration (later
replaced by grafting, see below); the default shell spawns only if the
panel ends up active and empty after restore.
* `Stop replaying serialized dock state over manual panel changes` —
fixes a
related race: `Dock::add_panel` replayed the serialized dock state
(active
panel, visibility, zoom) on every panel insertion, so a late-loading
panel
would re-activate the serialized panel over one the user had switched to
in
the meantime (e.g. the terminal panel yanking the dock away from the
agent
panel), or re-open a dock the user had closed. Serialized state is now
applied at most once and is discarded as soon as the user changes the
dock
state manually. The new tests fail without this change and pass with it.
* `Show restoration progress in the terminal panel and allow spawning
terminals during it` — while terminals restore, the panel shows a
spinner
with "Restoring terminals…" instead of a blank pane, and logs the
restored
count and elapsed time. Supersedes the queuing from the first commit:
new
terminals spawn immediately, and any that land mid-restore are grafted
into
the restored layout instead of being lost. Serialization is paused
during
restoration, so quitting mid-restore can no longer persist a partial tab
list and silently drop terminals.
Release Notes:
- Fixed the terminal panel not opening at all under certain
circumstances, made panels no longer switching back to the serialized
one when opened during startup.
# Objective
Fixes#62664
File names may contain control characters (`\n`, `\r`, `\t`, …) on most
platforms. Zed rendered them verbatim, so a file named `notes\ndraft.md`
broke the layout of its tab and of its project panel entry instead of
showing a readable name. The same held anywhere else a name reached the
screen without going through `Label::single_line`.
## Solution
The substitution lives in one shared place,
`ui::utils::replace_control_characters`, reached through
`Label::single_line`. `\n` keeps rendering as the `⏎` Zed already used,
so nothing that renders correctly today changes; every other C0 control
character maps onto the Unicode "Control Pictures" block by a single
rule (`U+2400 + code point`), giving `␉` for tab and `␍` for carriage
return. `DEL` maps to `␡`. C1 controls are left alone, having no
equivalent there.
Where that is wired in:
- **`Label::single_line`** — replaces its previous `\n`-only
substitution. The project panel already used it everywhere, including
folded directory components, so the panel is fixed by this alone.
- **Editor tabs** and the **default `Item::tab_content`**, neither of
which called `single_line`.
- **Terminal tab titles**, which render through their own `tab_content`.
Those titles come from OSC escape sequences, so the control characters
in them are attacker-controlled.
- **`HighlightedLabel::single_line`**, which never substituted anything
— not even `\n`. See below.
- **The file finder**, for both the file name and the path.
- **Nine `tab_content` overrides in git_ui**, by deleting them.
- **`HighlightedMatchWithPaths`**, for both the match label and its
paths — it backs the tab switcher and the outline panel, among others.
### `HighlightedLabel` needs its offsets moved, not just its text
Its highlight indices are byte offsets, and every stand-in is wider in
bytes than the character it replaces, so the offsets have to move with
the text. Left alone they index into the middle of a character, and
`highlight_ranges` slices the string at exactly those offsets — which
panics in release builds too. The constructor's `debug_panic!` does not
cover this, since `single_line` runs after construction.
So `replace_control_characters_remapping_offsets` substitutes and remaps
in one pass, over an old-to-new byte offset table built the way
`ensure_uniform_list_compatible_label` does it in `lsp_store`. This also
fixes the call sites that already asked for a single line, including the
branch picker and the tabular column filter values.
### Deleting the git_ui overrides
Nine files replicated the default `Item::tab_content` verbatim except
for the colour, hardcoding `selected ? Default : Muted` instead of
`params.text_color()`. Deleting them lets those tabs inherit the fixed
default, and fixes a second bug along the way: none of them dimmed when
the pane lost focus. Titles and icons are unaffected — they come from
`tab_content_text` and `tab_icon`, which the default calls.
`git_graph.rs` already did it this way.
### Tabular column headers
These never went through a `Label` at all: the raw `SharedString` was a
child of a `div`. They now display stand-ins, while right-click-copy
still yields the real column name.
Two notes for reviewers:
- Both helpers avoid allocating when there is nothing to replace, so the
common path is untouched. The previous `self.label.replace('\n', "⏎")`
allocated a `String` on every render for every label — including every
visible project panel entry, every frame.
- Every stand-in is exactly one character, so character offsets are
preserved and the existing `truncate_and_trailoff` math on tab titles
stays correct.
## Testing
- Unit tests cover both helpers: each control character's substitution,
repeated occurrences, multi-byte characters (accents, emoji), the
borrow-vs-own behaviour, the preserved character count, C1 passthrough,
and — for the remapping — offsets before, at and after a replacement,
offsets at and past the end, and the invariant that every remapped
offset lands on a character boundary.
- Unit tests cover `Label::single_line` and
`HighlightedLabel::single_line`, the entry points every call site uses.
`highlighted_label.rs` had no tests before.
- `cargo test -p ui -p file_finder -p workspace -p project_panel -p
git_ui -p git_ui_core -p terminal_view -p tabular_data_preview` passes
(774 tests), as do `cargo clippy` and `cargo fmt --check`.
- No existing test changes behaviour: tests assert on
`tab_content_text`, which is untouched; only rendering paths changed.
- Verified manually on macOS (aarch64) — see Showcase.

## Showcase
A directory holding `report<TAB>table.csv`, `notes<LF>draft.md`,
`carriage<CR>return.txt` and a normally named `normal.txt`, all four
open as tabs.
**Before**

**After**

Three things change:
1. **The `notes<LF>draft.md` tab** is the clearest one. Before, the
literal newline splits the tab across two lines — `notes` above
`draft.md` — distorting the whole tab bar. After, it stays on one line.
2. **`carriage<CR>return.txt` in the project panel** renders as
`carriagereturn.txt` before: the `\r` is completely invisible, so the
name reads as one word and there is no way to tell a character is there.
After, it renders as `carriage␍return.txt`.
3. **`report<TAB>table.csv`** shows a bare gap before, indistinguishable
from a space. After, it renders as `report␉table.csv`.
Note that `notes<LF>draft.md` looks the same in the project panel in
both shots: that entry already called `single_line`, which already
handled `\n`. That is precisely the asymmetry this PR removes.
### File finder
Before, the newline also breaks the list itself — the
`notes<LF>draft.md` row grows to two lines and overlaps the row beneath
it.
**Before**

**After**

Searching for `table` exercises the offset remapping, the match falling
after the control character:
**Before**

**After**

One thing this PR does **not** cover: the breadcrumb below the tab bar
still renders the raw tab character, as it goes through a different
path.
## Release Notes:
- Fixed file names containing control characters, such as tabs and
newlines, rendering unreadably in tabs, the project panel, the file
finder, the tab switcher and terminal tab titles.

- Closes#31866
Currently, `Terminal::alacritty::make_content()` always carries over any
existing hovered word. With this PR we now:
- *Are more selective*: Only carry forward the hovered word if the
terminal grid shape and visible lines have not changed
- *Correctly handle a shifting viewport*: If the grid shape and visible
lines have not changed, but new lines were added to the terminal we
carry the hovered word forward, and adjust the lines of the `word_match`
so that the original text remains hyperlinked.
Also, this PR relaxes the test for displaying a hyperlink in
`TerminalElement::prepaint`. We now display hyperlinks as long as the
`hovered_word.id`s from terminal and terminal_view match. Previously we
required all fields to be equal, which resulted in the hyperlink
flickering when scrolled back with new lines being added.

## Context
When cmd/ctrl-clicking a relative path in the terminal, Zed was
resolving it against the *current* working directory at click time, not
the directory that was active when the line was printed. So if you run
command `cd folder1` after running command `ls`, clicking `test.txt` in
the old `ls` output would open `ROOT/test.txt` instead of
`ROOT/folder1/test.txt`.
The approach is similar to the VSCode approach for hyperlinks in the
terminal

## How to Review
Two files changed — read in this order:
1. **`crates/terminal/src/pty_info.rs`** Bug fix:
`emit_title_changed_if_changed` was comparing cwd with itself because
`load()` writes to `self.current` *before* the comparison. Fixed by
capturing `prev_cwd`/`prev_name` before calling `load()`. Also extended
the background task to return the new cwd when it changes, so the
foreground task can call `terminal.record_cwd_change(cwd)`.
2. **`crates/terminal/src/terminal.rs`**
- `cwd_history: Vec<(i32, PathBuf)>` field on `Terminal`, seeded with
`(i32::MIN, initial_cwd)` for PTY terminals so all pre-history lines
resolve correctly.
- `record_cwd_change` called when the PTY cwd changes; records the
current scrollback position alongside the new path.
- `cwd_at_line` given a scrollback line, binary-searches the history to
find the most recent cwd active at or before that line.
- `process_hyperlink` updated to use `cwd_at_line` for both plain paths
and `file://` URLs.

`TerminalBounds::line_height` floors `height / line_height`, so
`TerminalElement::request_layout` does the inverse logic to calculate
the height for inline terminals with `displayed_lines * line_height`,

# Objective
Markdown Preview treats a relative `path:line[:column]` destination as a
literal filename. When that file does not exist, the link falls through
to the system URL handler instead of opening the workspace file at the
requested position.
## Solution
- Recognize position suffixes on relative Markdown links.
- Convert GitHub-style `#L42` fragments into the same positioned target
used by `path:42`, so both forms share one resolution and opening path.
- Resolve links with `workspace::path_link::possible_open_target` using
the Markdown source directory. This keeps the remote-project path
resolution added in #61438.
- Open resolved targets with `editor::items::open_resolved_target`,
including its one-based row and column handling.
- Preserve valid URI schemes and fall back to the existing Markdown link
behavior when no workspace target resolves.
## Testing
- Extended the Markdown Preview GPUI regression test to cover relative
`path:line:column`, GitHub-style `#Lline`, subfolder-relative
resolution, and custom URI schemes.
- `git diff --check` passes.
- The focused Rust test could not start in the current macOS environment
because the Rust toolchain binaries hang in the dynamic loader before
Cargo runs. PR Actions are awaiting maintainer approval.

Closes FR-139
Most focus-lost issues that close the agent panel in Zen mode stem from
panels returning a transient child editor's focus handle from
`Focusable::focus_handle`. The Zen-mode check closes the zoomed panel
when the focused element is not a descendant of the panel's focus
handle, so any focus movement inside the panel that landed outside that
child editor looked like the panel losing focus.
This PR separates the two roles that handle was serving:
- `Focusable::focus_handle` now always returns a stable handle tracked
at the panel's root element, used for containment checks (Zen-mode
auto-close, `toggle_panel_focus`, dock focus subscriptions).
- The new `Panel::activation_focus_handle` returns what should receive
focus when the panel is activated (e.g. a filter/commit/message editor)
and must be a focus-tree descendant of the root handle. All "focus the
panel" callsites in workspace/dock now use it.
Migrated panels: `AgentPanel` (including thread views and the toolbar
title editor), `CollabPanel`, `GitPanel`, `OutlinePanel`, and
`TerminalPanel` (previously delegated to the active pane, so focus in a
non-active pane dropped containment). `CollabPanel` activation falls
back to the panel root when signed out or collaboration is disabled,
since the filter editor isn't rendered in those states. Also fixes
duplicate element ids for tool calls with multiple content blocks.
Tests: a regression test that clicks tool-call output and focuses the
thread title editor while zoomed (both previously closed Zen mode), and
a dock-level test asserting the activation handle receives focus on
panel activation while the panel root reports containment.
Release Notes:
- Fixed zoomed panels (e.g. the agent panel in Zen mode) closing
unexpectedly when focus moved to elements inside the panel, such as tool
call output or the thread title editor.
# Objective
Fixes#61236
## Solution
This regression was introduced by #56715, which switches the alignment
based on whether the last row contains any content. However, this logic
can cause issues in the alternate screen. This PR fixes the problem by
excluding the alternate screen from the detection logic.

Release Notes:
- Fixed flickering in the integrated terminal when using the alternate
screen.
the startup terminal can take a sec to come up if your shell is slow.
when it's ready it grabs focus, and if you've opened the command palette
by then, that blurs the palette input and closes it. so it just
vanishes.
`add_center_terminal` focused the new terminal unconditionally. now it
skips the focus if a modal is open (`!has_active_modal`). one line at
the definition, covers all the call sites.
kept it terminal-specific like dinocosta framed it. could do a broader
workspace-level "don't steal from a modal" instead if you'd prefer.
two tests: modal stays focused after a background terminal spawns (fails
without the fix), and no-modal still focuses the terminal like before.

palette or an open picker
Found this while looking into a markdown preview issue. Clicking a
`path:row:column` target in the terminal treated the column as a byte
offset, so on lines with non-ASCII characters the cursor landed at mid
codepoint.
The real fix is just 3 lines and the rest is a refactor that extracts
the open and navigate logic so it can be reused later for cases like
markdown preview.
Release Notes:
- Fixed the cursor landing at the wrong column when clicking a
`path:row:column` link in the terminal for lines containing non-ASCII

VS Code has a command called "Toggle Maximize Editor Group" (`Cmd+K
Cmd+M`) that expands the active editor pane to fill the entire center
area, hiding editor split panes, but leaving docks and panels visible.
Zed's existing `ToggleZoom` hides all panels and is closer to VS Code's
Zen Mode. VS Code has both — it would be useful for Zed to as well.
This is particularly useful for people working on laptops, and has been
raised before (#32715, #4897, #32860), but the addition of the project
panel alongside the agent panel has made it more relevant. I work with
the editor split vertically, but with the project and agent panels both
visible, on a laptop screen there's really only room for a single editor
pane. This command makes it easy to switch to and from that mode.
**Behavior:**
- New action: `workspace::ToggleEditorZoom`
- When activated, the active editor pane expands to fill 100% of the
center/editor area, hiding sibling split panes
- Docks and panels remain visible and unaffected
- Toggling again restores the previous split layout
- If `ToggleZoom` is active, it unzooms first, then maximizes

## Context
On Linux, `ctrl-q` is globally bound to `zed::Quit`. When a
`TerminalView` is focused, pressing `ctrl-q` quit the application
instead of forwarding the keycode to the shell, breaking programs like
`ftp`, `tig`, and any app that uses XON/XOFF flow control.
Windows already had the fix: its `Terminal` keymap context overrides
`ctrl-q` with `["terminal::SendKeystroke", "ctrl-q"]`. The Linux keymap
was simply missing that override.
Closes#58809

## How to Review
- **`assets/keymaps/default-linux.json`** : One-line addition in the

terminal, simulates `ctrl-q`, and asserts the PTY receives byte `0x11`
instead of the quit action firing.

Release Notes:
- Fixed `ctrl-q` quitting Zed instead of being forwarded to the shell
when a terminal is focused on Linux
# Objective
Fix IME candidate window not following cursor position in the integrated
terminal when running fullscreen TUI applications like opencode.
When using IME (Input Method Editor) in Zed's terminal with fullscreen
TUI applications (e.g., opencode), the candidate window does not follow
the cursor position. This issue does not occur in normal terminal usage
(e.g., bash shell).
# Solution
The root cause was three-layer blocking preventing IME position updates
in ALT_SCREEN mode:
1. **ALT_SCREEN blocking**: `selected_text_range()` returned `None` in
ALT_SCREEN mode, causing `selected_bounds()` to return `None`
2. **Missing trigger**: `Event::Wakeup` did not call
`invalidate_character_coordinates()`, so cursor movement did not trigger
IME position updates
3. **Composition blocking**: `update_ime_position()` skipped updates
when `state.composing` was true
Fixes:
- Remove ALT_SCREEN check in `selected_text_range()` so IME position
updates work in fullscreen TUI apps
- Add `window.invalidate_character_coordinates()` in `Event::Wakeup` to
trigger IME position updates when terminal cursor moves
- Remove `state.composing` check in `update_ime_position()` to allow IME
position updates during text-input-v3 composition
- Remove unused `terminal` field from `TerminalInputHandler` struct
# Testing
**Did you test these changes? If so, how?**
- Yes, tested on Linux GNOME Wayland with iBus input method
- Verified IME candidate window correctly follows cursor in opencode
- Verified normal terminal usage with IME still works correctly

Release Notes:
- Fixed IME candidate window not following cursor in terminal TUI apps
## Summary
- Fixed the terminal inline assist tab bar tooltip so it resolves the
keybinding from the active terminal view.
- The bug happened when the initial terminal was closed and a new
terminal was opened: the tab bar button kept a cached focus handle for
the old terminal, so tooltip keybinding lookup could no longer find the
terminal key context.
- The button is now created while rendering the tab bar with the current
terminal view's focus handle, avoiding stale focus handles as terminals
are closed and recreated.
## Validation
- `cargo fmt --package terminal_view --check`
- `cargo check -p terminal_view --message-format short`
Release Notes:
- Fixed the terminal inline assist toolbar tooltip not showing its
keybinding after reopening terminals.

When files are dragged into the terminal, paths were formatted using
Rust's Debug format (`{path:?}`), which wraps them in double quotes.
This caused issues with programs like Claude Code that parse bare paths
from terminal input — quoted paths were treated as plain text instead of
file references.
This change replaces double-quote wrapping with backslash escaping for
special shell characters on Unix, which is both valid shell syntax and
compatible with path-parsing tools running in the terminal. On non-Unix
platforms the previous behavior is preserved.
Tested on macOS only. Unable to verify Windows behavior.
Fixes#57471
Release Notes:
- Fixed/ file drag-and-drop into terminal inserting double-quoted paths,
which prevented tools like Claude Code from recognizing them as file
references.

Closes#39159
## Summary
• resolve remote terminal path candidates outside known worktrees
through `Project::resolve_abs_path`
• keep the local filesystem backed resolution path unchanged
• preserve the existing preference for direct in-worktree matches when
the terminal cwd is already inside a worktree
• add regression coverage for both absolute and cwd-relative remote
external paths
### Why
The hyperlink parser wasn't the bug. `terminal_path_like_target` already
knew how to parse these paths. The actual problem was that remote
projects had no equivalent of the local background existence check.
After worktree lookup failed, remote projects only fell back to worktree
traversal, so cmd-click on `/tmp/a.txt` in an SSH remote terminal
no-op'd.
The project layer already has remote absolute-path resolution via
`Project::resolve_abs_path`, so the right fix is to use that existing
path for remote candidates instead of pretending remote projects cannot
resolve paths outside their worktrees.
## Verification
• `cargo test -p terminal_view terminal_path_like_target --quiet`
• `cargo test -p terminal_view --quiet`
## Manual
• Verified locally on my MBP w/ a stateless Zed build using SSH to self
(`localhost`)
• Opened `/tmp/zed-39159-project` as a remote project
• Confirmed cmd-click opens `/tmp/zed-39159-external/a.txt`
• Confirmed cmd-click opens `zed-39159-external/b.txt` from `cwd=/tmp`
• Confirmed in-worktree paths still open correctly
• Confirmed nonexistent external paths do not open bogus targets
Release Notes:
- Fixed remote terminal path opening so cmd-click can open files outside
the project worktree.
Both cloning and dropping of these has quite a bit of overhead (despite
them being snapshots), so avoid where possible, especially in display
map syncing

This diff fixes the macOS Edit menu showing Copy and Paste as disabled
when a terminal is focused. Terminal shortcuts already worked because
keybindings dispatch `terminal::Copy` and `terminal::Paste`, but the app
menu validates `editor::Copy` and `editor::Paste`, which the terminal
view did not expose.
With this change, the terminal view handles the editor Copy and Paste
actions by delegating to the existing terminal copy and paste paths.
This keeps keyboard behavior unchanged while allowing menu validation
and menu dispatch to work correctly for focused terminals.
Release Notes:
- Fixed `Copy` and `Paste` being disabled in the macOS `Edit` menu when
a terminal is focused.

I ran into this while using lazygit: the Shift navigation keys were
being captured by Zed to scroll the terminal buffer instead of being
passed through to the program.
Capturing them makes sense in the normal terminal case, where the user
wants to scroll and Shift has no other meaning. But in alternate-screen
TUIs like lazygit, less, or neovim, terminal scrollback isn't relevant,
so we can forward these keys to the program while it's open.
Release Notes:
- Fixed Shift+Up, Shift+Down, Shift+Home, and Shift+End in terminal TUIs
like lazygit, less, and neovim.

When the agent mentions a file path inside `backticks` (e.g. ``
`src/main.rs` `` or `` `src/main.rs:42` ``), the rendered code span now
becomes a clickable link in the agent panel. Clicking opens the
referenced file in the workspace, jumping to the right line and column
when present.
## How it works
- **Shared path resolution.** Extracted `OpenTarget` and the
workspace/worktree resolution logic out of
`terminal_view::terminal_path_like_target` into a new
`workspace::path_link` module so both the terminal and the agent panel
can use the same code. Includes a `sanitize_path_text` helper ported
from the terminal's URL/punctuation handling. Pure refactor — terminal
behavior is unchanged.
- **`markdown` crate hook.** Added
`MarkdownElement::on_code_span_link(callback)`. When the callback
returns `Some(url)` for a given code span's contents, the existing
`push_link` machinery wires up cmd-hover, hit testing, and the existing
`on_url_click` callback. When it returns `None`, the code span renders
as before. The hook is opt-in, so `markdown` stays workspace-agnostic.
- **Agent panel wiring.** `render_agent_markdown` constructs an
`AgentCodeSpanResolver` that snapshots the project's visible worktree
entries plus their file extensions. `try_resolve` does a cheap
synchronous heuristic check (path must contain `/`/`\` or end in an
extension present in the workspace, can't be a URL, can't be all digits,
etc.) and then looks the candidate up in the per-worktree
`HashSet<Arc<RelPath>>`. On a hit it returns a `MentionUri::File` or
`MentionUri::Selection` URI, which the existing `thread_view::open_link`
already knows how to open at the right line.
## Edge cases handled
- Code spans inside fenced code blocks stay plain (gated on
`builder.code_block_stack.is_empty()`, matching how regular markdown
links behave).
- Trailing prose punctuation (`` `src/main.rs.` ``) is stripped before
lookup.
- Identifiers like `` `String` ``, `` `await` ``, `` `npm run dev` ``
stay plain — they don't pass the path-like heuristic.
- Cross-platform path separators handled via the per-worktree
`PathStyle`.
## Tests
- `crates/markdown` — unit test asserting code spans become links when
the callback returns `Some`, and stay plain when it doesn't.
- `crates/agent_ui` — unit test for `AgentCodeSpanResolver::try_resolve`
covering hits with and without a `:line` suffix, misses, identifiers,
and trailing punctuation.
- Existing `terminal_view` tests cover the moved resolution code
(unchanged behavior).
## Notes
- There's currently a temporary `log::info!` in
`AgentCodeSpanResolver::try_resolve` that reports per-call worktree-walk
timing and a cumulative total. Kept in for now to verify the feature
isn't being called excessively during streaming renders. Can be removed
before merge.
- Resolution is sync-only against worktree entries; absolute paths
outside the workspace are not resolved (would require an async re-render
path).
Closes AI-277
Release Notes:
- Made file paths in `backticks` clickable in the agent panel; clicking
opens the referenced file at the given line when present.
Resolves https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/56138
This diff hides terminal agent actions from context menus shown by
embedded terminal views, such as terminal tool output in agent threads.
Those surfaces render through `TerminalView`, but they are not normal
interactive terminal panes, and actions like Inline Assist and Add to
Agent Thread do not currently resolve the embedded terminal as their
target.
Previously, choosing Inline Assist from terminal tool output could
target the workspace’s active editor instead of the terminal output. The
context menu now limits these agent actions to non-embedded terminal
views, so regular terminal panes keep their existing behavior while
terminal tool output no longer offers actions that cannot resolve to it.
Add to Agent Thread _could_ make sense for embedded terminal selections
in the future, but it would need explicit target-resolution support for
focused embedded terminals. This change keeps that as separate follow-up
work instead of leaving a misleading menu item that does not reliably
act on the selected tool output.
Release Notes:
- Fixed embedded terminal context menus showing agent actions that could
target the wrong item.

### Summary
- Route `buffer_search::UseSelectionForFind` through
`BufferSearchBar::deploy` instead of updating the query editor directly.
- Add an explicit seed-query override to `deploy`, so the Cmd-E action
can force `SeedQuerySetting::Always` while regular deploy callers
continue to pass `None` and respect the user’s
`seed_search_query_from_cursor` setting.
- By going through `deploy`, Cmd-E now also runs the search path that
keeps buffer-search navigation state in sync:
- shows/initializes the search bar for the active searchable item
- applies the seeded query via `search_suggested`
- calls `search`, which updates the query editor, search options, active
search query, search history, and macOS find pasteboard
- refreshes `searchable_items_with_matches` and `active_match_index`
- activates the current match after the search completes
- This ensures the subsequent Cmd-G action has the expected active
query, match list, search token, and active match index to select the
next result.
- Add a macOS-only end-to-end regression test using the default macOS
keymap with `simulate_keystrokes("cmd-e")` and
`simulate_keystrokes("cmd-g")`.
### Validation
- `cargo test -p search test_cmd_e_then_cmd_g_uses_selection_for_find`

- `cargo check -p search`

This adds the functionality to support pasting the file path of an item
when the copied item supports it. This mirrors the behavior of
`Terminal.app` on macOS.
This only implements the functionality on macOS but could be extended to
other platforms.
I find this convenient when I'm using Finder to navigate around the file
system and I want to copy a directory or file path and put it in the
terminal. You can copy the item from Finder and paste it into the
terminal and it will write out the full path of the item, making it easy
to change directories or provide path parameters to commands.
Release Notes:
- Added path pasting functionality in terminal
Right now the terminal rendering code applies a minimum contrast value
(which is good, and for accessibility) to colors that appear, there was
already an exemption from this for 24bit color specification, because
the application explicitly asked for that color, so it should be
rendered that color.
My change changes that exemption to also include ansi colors 16-255,
because these are also set explicitly, the normal, non-exempt case is
now the default ansi colors, 0-15, these are set by the theme and are
usually specified as just 'red' or 'green', hence the importance of the
min contrast.
Heres what the gradient ramp from the original issue looks like now:

Painting primitives at non-integer pixel coordinates produces blurry
output. Pixel snapping converts layout coordinates into integer
device-pixel coordinates so painted edges land exactly on physical pixel
boundaries.
Non-integer coordinates can arise for several reasons, including:
- flex distribution, percentages, centering, and text measurement can
produce fractional element sizes and positions;
- at fractional scale factors (for example 125% or 150%), integer
logical-pixel values can map to non-integer device-pixel values.
We pixel-snap by rounding in device-pixel space, after multiplying by
`scale_factor`, so that snapping targets physical pixels. Bounds are
divided by `scale_factor` before being returned to GPUI.
Midpoints are rounded toward zero. This is a stylistic choice: a
1-logical-pixel line at 150% scale should render as 1 dp rather than 2
dp.
Pixel snapping is done in two phases:
1. Pre-layout metric snapping. Before Taffy computes layout, all
authored absolute lengths are rounded in `to_taffy`. This includes
borders, padding, gaps, and explicit sizes. Custom-measured leaf nodes
have their measured sizes rounded up to integer device-pixel lengths.
2. Post-layout edge snapping. After Taffy resolves the tree, layout
relationships such as flex shares, grid tracks, percentages, and
centering can produce new fractional edge positions. Boxes now have
edges in absolute coordinates, and snapping must decide where those
edges land on the device-pixel grid.
Ideally, post-layout snapping would satisfy:
- Edge closure. Two raw layout edges at the same absolute position
should snap to the same pixel column.
- Translation stability. A component's internal geometry should not
change when it moves to a new absolute position.
These goals are in tension because rounding is not associative. The
simple local schemes make different tradeoffs:
- Absolute edge rounding gives each window coordinate one answer, so
coincident edges always close globally. But a span's snapped length is
`round(far) - round(near)`, which may change by 1 dp as its absolute
origin moves.
- Parent-relative edge rounding rounds each child inside its parent's
coordinate space. This guarantees translation stability, but a shared
edge reached through different parents can accumulate different
rounding, causing non-closure between cousins.
- Length rounding rounds each width, height, and thickness independently
and then places boxes from those rounded lengths. Sizes stay stable
under translation, but neighboring boxes derive their shared boundary
from different sources, so closure is not guaranteed.
We apply absolute edge rounding for each element's outer box in
post-layout rounding to preserve closure. Border and padding widths are
not touched by post-layout rounding; they keep their pre-layout rounded
value so that they remain stable under translation.
This gives both closure and translation stability in the case that all
local metrics are integer device-pixel lengths. Pre-layout rounding
covers that in most cases. The exception is metrics resolved by layout
relationships, such as percentages. Outer box edges will still close
globally, and painted border widths are still snapped independently, but
the raw content-box origin can carry a 1 dp residual into descendants.

No, sadly, the title is not a typo. See

I have no idea how it happened. It makes literally zero sense. A PR
going into the merge queue should have the same LoC when getting out of

## Summary
- When right-clicking a word in the terminal with no prior selection,
`select_word_at_event_position` queues the selection as an
`InternalEvent` that only syncs to `last_content` on the next update
cycle.
- The context menu was reading `last_content.selection_text` before the
sync, so "Add to Agent Thread" was missing until the second right-click.
- Pass `has_selection` into `deploy_context_menu` from the call site,
where we already know whether a word was just selected.
## Test plan
- [x] Open a terminal in Zed
- [x] Run a command that produces output (e.g. `echo foo bar baz`)
- [x] Ensure there is no existing selection
- [x] Right-click on a word — "Add to Agent Thread" appears on the first
right-click
- [x] Right-click with an existing selection — "Add to Agent Thread"
still appears
- [x] Right-click with no text under cursor — context menu still works
correctly
