## Objective
`file_scan_exclusions` replaces the defaults instead of adding to them,
so excluding one extra directory means restating all eleven default
globs and never picking up defaults added in later Zed releases.
## Solution
`file_scan_exclusions` now accepts the `"..."` entry, which expands to
the value it overrides, so `["**/node_modules", "..."]` adds to the
inherited globs instead of replacing them. Entries listed by name keep
their position, and leaving `"..."` out still replaces the list
outright, so existing settings behave exactly as they do today.
## Testing
- Four unit tests in `crates/settings_content/src/project.rs` cover
splicing versus replacing, accumulation across successive layers, and
edge cases: a repeated `"..."`, an empty list clearing the value, and a
bare `["..."]` leaving it unchanged.
- To check by hand: set `"file_scan_exclusions": ["**/node_modules",
"..."]` in user settings and confirm `node_modules` disappears from the
project panel and file finder while `.git` and `.DS_Store` stay
excluded. Remove `"..."` and confirm only `node_modules` is excluded.
Repeat in a project's `.zed/settings.json` to confirm it splices the
resolved user settings rather than the defaults.
- Tested on macOS. This is platform-independent settings-merge logic
with no OS-specific code paths, so I did not test Linux or Windows.

# Objective
Right now Zed can go full screen but it does not allow you to fix the
hole screen,
by that I mean that Zed can go behind the notch so you don't have extra
useless room left.
## Solution
You can now use the `fullscreen_mode` = `simple` setting to use the new
simple full screen feature, that lives besides the normal full screen
feature. But allows you to have an option to go 100% full screen without
losing any useless space on your macbook screen.
**Note** this is mostly usefull when you have a macbook that has a notch
whitch is kinda in the way of your work flow.

Fixes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/35780
Collab schema migration PR:
https://github.com/zed-industries/cloud/pull/3422
The corresponding database schema migration has been created in the
Cloud repo and applied to the production database.
Before, Zed scanned each and every entry in the tree down from the
directory it was opened in, except gitignored files and scan exclusions.
The approach is unchanged, if Zed detects it was open inside a git
repository: e.g. the directory open in Zed contains `.git` directory.
For the rest of the projects, 2 optimizations are made:
* Limit the depth of file scan traversal.
Now, `file_scan_depth` (default `5`) restricts Zed from traversing any
directory that has same number or more segments in its file path.
Such directories behave similar to gitignored directories: their
contents is not available in file finder, project search and project
panel, but can be lazily traversed when the directory is expanded (e.g.
project panel expands it or a nested file is open by path via terminal,
etc.)
To indicate that to the users, a status entry is shown firs time the
limitation is hit in the project:
<img width="858" height="133" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/7da6cfbb-98b4-4cc3-bf2a-8902a9597a15"
/>
* During the scan, any git repositories that are not direct children of
the directory open in Zed (depth >= 2), are traversed and indexed
normally, but their git metadata is never fetched eagerly.
Only when Zed opens a buffer from that repo the git metadata is fetched
and applied.
All that combined now uses a way more moderate amount of CPU and RAM
when opening `~`:
<img width="1717" height="368" alt="Screenshot 2026-08-13 at 17 43 53"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ec83e2a9-f7cc-452b-8eb7-af158284ca4e"
/>
File scan inclusions and exclusions are considered still for such
projects.
Set `file_scan_depth` to `0` to enable old behavior.
The setting is supported in the project settings, so custom values can
be set based on the project's structure.

## Summary
Adds a `gutter.git_gutter_width` setting that lets users pin the width,
in pixels, of the git diff hunk indicators in the editor gutter.
Previously the width was always derived from the buffer font size
(`floor(0.275 * line_height)`), which can render too thin or too thick
depending on font family and display pixel density. This adds an
optional override:
```json
{
"gutter": {
"git_gutter_width": 6
}
}
```
When the setting is unset (`null`, the default), the width continues to
scale with the buffer font size, so existing behavior is unchanged.
## Motivation
Requested in [discussion
#27799](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/27799). Beyond
the width itself, participants noted the git hunk hit target is
extremely narrow and hard to click. Because the hunk hitbox reuses the
painted strip bounds, setting a wider `git_gutter_width` also widens the
clickable area, addressing that complaint with the same setting.
## Changes
- `settings_content`: new `git_gutter_width: Option<f32>` on
`GutterContent`.
- `editor`: mirror field on the resolved `Gutter`; `gutter_strip_width`
now consults the setting, and the value flows through `diff_hunk_bounds`
(including the deleted-hunk marker) and the gutter layout anchors for
line numbers, folds, and expand toggles.
- `settings` (VS Code import): pass through the new field.
- Docs + `default.json`: document the new setting.
## Notes
- `Eq` was dropped from `GutterContent`/`Gutter` because `f32` is not
`Eq`; this matches the existing `EditorSettingsContent` convention for
float-bearing settings.

- Added a `gutter.git_gutter_width` setting to configure the width of

# Objective
Let git indicators — the editor gutter, file colors, and `git::Diff` —
show all changes on the current branch relative to its merge base with
the default branch, instead of only uncommitted changes.
Supersedes #60398; thanks to @samuelcolvin for the original
implementation and motivation.
Closes FR-135
## Solution
- New `git.diff_base` setting (`"head"` | `"default_branch"`), applied
live and toggleable per session from the editor controls menu ("Diff
Against Default Branch").
- Statuses come from a real merge-base-to-worktree tree diff (`git diff
--merge-base`), so local edits that revert branch changes correctly show
as unchanged.
- `GitStore` shares one `DiffBufferList` per repository with the Branch
Diff view; `repo_snapshots` and `project_path_git_status` keep returning
index/worktree truth, while display surfaces use separate `display_*`
APIs.
- `BufferDiff` now records what its base is (`DiffBaseKind`); hunks
whose base isn't HEAD are read-only in the gutter — stage/restore
buttons and keybindings are inert, so committed work can't be silently
rewritten.
- `git::Diff` follows the setting; new `git::DiffHead` always opens the
HEAD diff; `git::BranchDiff` is renamed `git::DiffBranch` (deprecated
alias kept).
Tradeoffs / known limitations:
- Hunk-level staging is unavailable while in `default_branch` mode
(whole-file staging via the git panel still works). Staging just the
uncommitted sub-ranges of a branch hunk is a follow-up.
- Remote hosts running an older server ignore the new
`GetTreeDiff.includes_worktree` proto field and degrade to
committed-changes-only branch diffs.
- Repositories with no resolvable default branch fall back to
HEAD-relative behavior; a failed first resolution retries on the next
branch-list change.
## Testing
- Real-git-repo tests for the merge-base-to-worktree diff's edge cases:
files recreated after index deletion, committed deletions recreated on
disk, and symlinks.
- GPUI tests for status semantics (a branch change reverted on disk
shows clean), `git::Diff` routing, live setting changes, and read-only
hunk enforcement (restore/stage leave buffer and index untouched).

Currently, Zed's "VSCode" keymap has certain discrepancies that are not
changed for compatibility reasons, e.g. opening inline assistant is
different in each editor.
To simplify the transition, extract VSCode bindings its own keymap so in
the future it's simpler to accept changes to each keymap separately.
Caveat: people who had ever changed the keymap, will have VSCode keymap
in their settings which will change their bindings slightly after this
commit is released.
I had to introduce more logic to `null` handling as had to somehow
disable `ctrl-enter` on mac from spawning the inline assistant block for
VSCode keymap (it's cmd-i there).
Release Notes:
- Split VSCode and Zed keymap files
## Context
Zed runs external formatters as stdin/stdout filters: it writes the
current buffer to stdin and replaces the buffer with the formatter's
stdout. Commands such as `cargo fmt` instead rewrite files on disk and
exit successfully without producing stdout, causing Zed to interpret the
empty output as the formatted contents and clear a non-empty buffer.
The fix treats empty stdout from a successful external formatter as no
output when the original buffer is non-empty. Zed leaves the buffer
unchanged and displays a notification explaining that the formatter did
not return formatted contents. The formatter documentation now clarifies
the stdin/stdout contract and recommends using the Rust language server
or invoking `rustfmt` directly.
Closes#56344

## How to Review
**crates/project/src/lsp_store.rs**
Start with `format_via_external_command`, which now checks whether a
successful formatter returned empty stdout while the input buffer was
non-empty. In that case, it returns `None` before constructing a diff,
preventing the buffer contents from being replaced with an empty string.
Then review the external formatter branch in `apply_formatter`: when it
receives `None`, it skips extending the formatting transaction, logs the
condition, and emits an `LspStoreEvent::Notification` explaining why the
buffer was left unchanged.
**crates/editor/src/editor_tests.rs**
Adds a GPUI regression test that configures an external command to
consume stdin and return no stdout. It uses platform-specific commands
for Windows and Unix, invokes manual formatting on a non-empty Rust
buffer, and verifies that the buffer remains unchanged, the operation is
not recorded as a formatter failure, and a notification is emitted.
**docs/src/reference/all-settings.md**
Extends the external formatter documentation to state that formatters
must return the formatted buffer through stdout. It calls out
file-rewriting tools such as `cargo fmt` as incompatible and recommends
using the Rust language server or `rustfmt --emit stdout`.

## Summary
Introduces `format_on_save` variants that format only modified lines,
limiting formatting to lines changed since the last commit. This
prevents massive diffs when editing legacy codebases. Aligns with VS
Code's `editor.formatOnSaveMode` naming:
- `"modifications"` — formats only git-diffed lines. Requires source
control; skips formatting if no diff is available.
- `"modifications_if_available"` — formats only git-diffed lines,
falling back to full-file formatting for untracked files, when source
control is unavailable, or when the LSP does not support range
formatting.
Also supports importing equivalent VS Code settings
(`formatOnSaveMode`).
This PR uses the range-based whitespace/newline infrastructure from the
dependency PR above.
## Changes
<details>
<summary><b>New settings, modified ranges computation, VS Code
import</b></summary>
### New settings (`language.rs`, `default.json`, `all-settings.md`)
Two new `FormatOnSave` variants: `Modifications` and
`ModificationsIfAvailable`.
### Modified ranges computation (`items.rs`)
- `compute_format_decision()` — reads `format_on_save` setting across
all buffers, determines whether to use ranged formatting (`Ranges`),
full formatting (`Full`), or skip (`Skip`).
- `compute_modified_ranges()` — extracts modified line ranges from git
diff hunks via `BufferDiffSnapshot`.
- `is_empty_range()` — helper to detect deletion-only hunks that produce
no formatable content.
The `save()` method calls `compute_format_decision()` and dispatches
accordingly.
### Modifications mode in `lsp_store.rs`
- Adds `FormatOnSave::Modifications |
FormatOnSave::ModificationsIfAvailable` to the formatter selection match
arm.
- `ModificationsIfAvailable` falls back to full-file formatting when
ranged formatting produces no results.
### VS Code settings import (`vscode_import.rs`, `settings_store.rs`)
Imports `editor.formatOnSaveMode` mapping:
- `"modifications"` → `FormatOnSave::Modifications`
- `"modificationsIfAvailable"` →
`FormatOnSave::ModificationsIfAvailable`
- `"file"` → `FormatOnSave::On`
</details>
## Tests
- `test_modifications_format_on_save` — basic modifications mode
formatting with dirty buffer
- `test_modifications_format_no_changes` — clean buffer triggers no
formatting
- `test_modifications_format_lsp_no_range_support` — LSP without range
formatting skips entirely for `Modifications`
- `test_modifications_format_lsp_returns_empty_edits` — empty edits
handled gracefully
- `test_modifications_format_multiple_hunks` — two non-adjacent edits
produce two separate range formatting requests

This fixes#56956.
The terminal link-open gesture was split between `mouse_down` and
`mouse_up`, but both halves only ran in the non-mouse-reporting path.
When a foreground app enabled terminal mouse reporting, a secondary
click on a URL or file path was forwarded to the PTY instead of opening
the link.
This changes secondary-click link handling so it checks for a hyperlink
before mouse reporting on press, and completes the matching hyperlink
open before mouse reporting on release. The event is only consumed when
the click actually lands on the same link, so normal clicks in
mouse-reporting TUIs continue to be forwarded as before.
Validation:
- `CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=1 cargo test -j1 -p terminal
test_hyperlink_ctrl_click_same_position_in_mouse_mode`
- `CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=1 cargo check -j1 -p terminal`
Release Notes:
- Improved terminal links: Cmd/Ctrl-click now opens links even when the
application has mouse reporting enabled (e.g. vim, opencode, claude).
Disable `terminal.open_links_in_mouse_mode` to forward these clicks to
the application instead.

# Add status bar location for inline git blame
## Objective
- Closes#12133 by implementing the VS Code-like behavior for status bar
git blame
## Solution
Adds a VS Code–style option to render the current-line git blame in the
status bar instead of inline at the cursor.
Whats new
- A new location setting: Under the inline_blame configuration, you can
now choose between two options:
- `inline` (Default) — Keeps things exactly as they are, showing the
blame details at the end of your current line.
- `status_bar` — Moves the blame info down to the bottom status bar.
- The Status Bar Item: When you choose the status bar option, a clean
new button appears at the bottom left of your window. It features a Git
icon, the author's name, how long ago the change was made, and the
commit summary
- Behaves as it does before, but displayed at a different location
- Clicking the status bar item will instantly open up the full Git
commit details like at vscode
- Settings UI:
- The "Location" control is now a `DynamicItem` nested under "Enabled",
so it only appears when inline blame is enabled.
- Registers a dropdown renderer for `InlineBlameLocation`.
- Updates `all-settings.md` and `visual-customization.md` for the new
option.
## Testing
- Manually tested both modes by toggling `git.inline_blame.location`
between `inline` and `status_bar`:
- `inline` keeps the existing behavior unchanged.
- `status_bar` shows the blame for the focused line in the status bar,
hides the inline blame, updates on cursor movement, clears when no
editor is focused, and opens the blame commit on click.
- Verified the settings UI shows the "Location" dropdown only when
inline blame is enabled.
- Tested with `show_commit_summary` toggled when location is
`status_bar` (for inline location, nothing is changed)
Areas that could use more testing:
- Remote (collab) editors ?
Reviewers can test by setting the following in `settings.json` and
moving the cursor across blamed lines:
```json
{
"git": {
"inline_blame": {
"enabled": true,
"location": "status_bar"
}
}
}
```

## Summary
This updates the Git Panel view controls so the panel can independently
model:
- whether entries are shown as a list or tree
- whether flat entries are sorted by path or name
- whether entries are grouped by status or shown as one combined set
It also keeps the Project Diff order consistent with the Git Panel,
including tree ordering, status grouping, and flat name/path sorting.
## Why This Is Useful
The previous sort_by_path boolean overloaded two separate ideas: sorting
and grouping. That made it hard to represent the view users actually
wanted, especially a single tree where tracked and untracked files are
not split into separate sections.
This change replaces that boolean with explicit enum settings:
- git_panel.sort_by: path or name
- git_panel.group_by: none or status
That keeps the settings mutually exclusive, easier to extend, and closer
to the UI model.
## Implementation Notes
- Adds a dedicated Git Panel View Options menu using the sliders icon.
- Moves view, sort, and group controls out of the overflow actions menu.
- Disables sort options in tree view because tree order is folder-first
rather than pure path/name sorting.
- Removes the Tracked heading when grouping is disabled.
- Keeps Git Panel tree expansion state when switching view options.
- Recomputes Project Diff sort prefixes from tree_view, sort_by, and
group_by so diff cards follow the same top-to-bottom order as the Git
Panel.
- Preserves Project Diff open/closed file state across view option
changes by carrying fold state by repo path instead of by synthetic sort
key.
- Updates settings UI renderers and docs for the new enum settings.
## Testing
- [x] cargo fmt --package git_ui --package settings_ui
- [x] cargo check -p git_ui
- [x] Verified settings UI enum dropdown rendering for Git Panel
sort/group settings

Adds option to always search/scan symlinks for more thorough coverage of
#41887 issue
This is a significant rewrite and more thoroughly reviewed and tested
version of the old PR here:
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/46344
The "never" option was removed from the old PR, since "expanded" is now
the default. Perhaps "never" can be added as an option later if there's
demand for it. Adding that option may resolve#48890 for instance.

Update the behavior of both `editor: go to diagnostic` and `editor: go
to previous diagnostic` in order to ensure that, if there's a diagnostic
under the user's cursor that isn't active, it is first activated, with a
subsequent call jumping to the next or previous diagnostic,
respectively.
These changes also update how diagnostic activation handles the
situation when the global diagnostic renderer is not registered, as we
used to not update the active diagnostic group in that situation.
However, we now rely on it to determine whether the user's cursor is
already in the active diagnostic, with some tests now failing, so we now
default to an empty set of blocks for the active diagnostic group when
no global renderer is registered.
Release Notes:
- Update both `editor: go to diagnostic` and `editor: go to previous
diagnostic` to prefer activating the diagnostic under the cursor before
jumping to the next or previous diagnostic, respectively

## Summary
- Adds a new concept page (`docs/src/windows-and-projects.md`)
explaining how Zed handles multiple projects in windows
- Fixes the VS Code migration guide which incorrectly stated "Zed does
not support multi-root workspaces"
- Adds cross-links from Getting Started, CLI Reference, and Parallel
Agents docs
## Context
With multi-workspace now universally enabled, the default behavior is:
- **File > Open** opens projects in the current window's sidebar (not a
new window)
- **Cmd+Enter** in Open Recent opens in a new window
- **CLI `-n` flag** forces a new window
The VS Code migration guide was telling users the opposite of reality.
This PR fixes that and provides a central concept page that other docs
can link to.
## Changes
| File | Change |
|------|--------|
| `windows-and-projects.md` | New concept page |
| `SUMMARY.md` | Add to Working with Code section |
| `getting-started.md` | Note about sidebar default + link |
| `migrate/vs-code.md` | Fix "no multi-root" claim → explain sidebar
model |
| `reference/cli.md` | Link to concept page from flags section |
| `ai/parallel-agents.md` | Cross-reference in Multiple Projects section

Instead of manually handing hiding the cursor on keyboard input at the
editor level, GPUI will now take care of it.
This makes it significantly easier to handle the edge cases, and allows
delegating the cursor restoration to the platform itself in the macOS
case. On Linux and Windows, we still have to restore the cursor on
movement ourselves, but this now happens at the platform-specific level.
Bugs fixed by this change:
- No cursor when "Unsaved edits" prompt appears
- Cursor disappears when clicking a panel button if it contains a search
bar (e.g. collab panel)
### Setting rename
The `hide_mouse` setting value `"on_typing_and_movement"` has been
renamed to `"on_typing_and_action"` to better reflect what it actually
does — it hides the cursor when a keystroke resolves to an action (e.g.
cursor movement, deletion). Existing settings are migrated
automatically.

These changes attempt to expand on the work introduced by
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/54778 by introducing a new
`GoToDefinitionScrollStrategy::Preserve` variant that attempts to keep
the cursor at the same vertical offset within the viewport when
navigating to a definition.
Most of the machinery for this was already in place. To support cases
where the user's scroll position isn't snapped to an exact display row,
for example, after scrolling with the mmouse, `Autoscroll::TopRelative`
and `Autoscroll::BottomRelative` were updated from `usize` to
`ScrollOffset`, allowing fractional offsets.
When the cursor is offscreen at the moment the `editor: go to
definition` action is invoked, `Preserve` falls back to
`Autoscroll::center`, matching the existing default for
`go_to_definition_scroll_strategy`. This avoids attempting to preserve
an offset where the cursor isn't visible which would lead to the cursor
being offscreen when jumping to the definition.
Documentation has also been updated to reflect this new strategy value.

Relates to #52173
Release Notes:
- Added a new `preserve` option to `go_to_definition_scroll_strategy`
that keeps the cursor at the same vertical position within the viewport
when navigating to a definition
Allows to reconfigure behavior, including the previous one, `top`
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/52173
Release Notes:
- Reworked go to definition to open its target in the center of the
editor. Can be reconfigured with `go_to_definition_scroll_strategy`.
Needs https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/54635 for the profile
overrides added into default settings json to work.
Part of https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/48968
Another part of the fix related seems to be
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/45669 ?
Using the steps from the issue and profiling on macOs had shown that Zed
has 2 memory "leaks" in play when a certain file is being rewritten a
lot of times.
* First, the thread profiler registers a lot of tasks' data and fills
its buffer to the limit:
<img width="3456" height="2158" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/f183312d-4389-4072-8915-d54e60419b08"
/>
* Second, if the buffer gets open, the undo history fragments start to
creep up infinitely:
<img width="3456" height="2158" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/61a2b66b-81fd-4973-9c3c-c339f886d9b2"
/>
The PR aims to solve the first issue by disabling the profiling by
default, yet leaving the way to turn in on quickly with settings.
The memory usage profiling shows that the memory usage is now
dynamically affected by the new setting:
<img width="2032" height="1136" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/8a6c76b9-6fb7-44bc-ac1d-3c34afe7c575"
/>
While the test directory being thrashed with the script from the issue,
* first, Zed starts with the profiling disabled
* then gets the profiling enabled which results in the memory growth
close to 1 minute mark of the screenshot
* last, the profiling gets disabled again, releasing all the memory
accumulated
Release Notes:
- Improved Zed's default memory usage
Closes#49581
Adds a `line_ending` language setting that controls how line endings are
handled for new files and during format/save:
- `detect` (default) — detects existing line endings; new files use the
platform default
- `prefer_lf` / `prefer_crlf` — sets LF or CRLF for new files and files
with no existing convention, while preserving existing files
- `enforce_lf` / `enforce_crlf` — normalizes all line endings to LF or
CRLF on every format/save
The setting can be configured globally, per-language, or via
`.editorconfig`'s `end_of_line` property (which maps to `enforce_lf` /
`enforce_crlf`).
Release Notes:
- Added `line_ending` setting to control how line endings are handled
for new files and normalized on save.
- Added support for `.editorconfig` `end_of_line` property to enforce
line endings.

This PR makes Zed only have one worktree picker, as opposed to a flavor
of it in the title bar and another in the agent panel. It then moves it
to the title bar, making it always present, so that its trigger is
separate from the branch picker (which now contains only two views:
branches and stashes). For the worktree picker, I'm mostly favoring the
behavior we've introduced in the agent-panel-flavored version.
It also updates the title bar settings migration to use the JSON
`migrate_settings` helper instead of a shallow Tree-sitter rewrite, so
old `show_branch_icon = true` values are promoted to
`show_branch_status_icon = true` across root, platform, release-channel,
and profile settings scopes.
- [x] Move worktree creation logic to the `git_ui` crate to make this
more generic and less agent-specific
- [x] Double-check the remote use case and ensure nothing broke there
- [x] Improve the UX for the detached HEAD state; better invite people
to create a branch
- [x] Migrate `show_branch_icon = true` to `show_branch_status_icon =
true` across nested settings scopes
Suggested .rules additions
When migrating renamed settings keys that can appear in platform
overrides, release-channel overrides, or profiles, prefer the JSON
`migrations::migrate_settings` helper over shallow Tree-sitter key
rewrites unless tests explicitly cover every nested scope that can
contain the key.
Release Notes:
- Improved migration of the title bar branch status icon setting.

We had an internal report of soft wrap not working in git panel's commit
editor. Given the following settings:
```json
{
"languages": {
"Git Commit": {
"preferred_line_length": 80,
"soft_wrap": "preferred_line_length",
},
},
}
```
We would not soft-wrap in narrow viewports. As it turned out, the
problem was that we were always prefering a `preferred_line_length` as
our soft wrap boundary over the actual width of the editor.

follow up #47471
As described in #47471, we introduced a direction-aware strategy to
improve user experience when interacting with hover popovers. In this
follow-up, we are adding `hover_popover_sticky` and
`hover_popover_hiding_delay` to control whether the feature introduced
in 47471 enabled, and to let users configure the delay to balance
responsiveness . Also `hover_popover_sticky` can now be imported from
`editor.hover.sticky`, as well as `hover_popover_hiding_delay` from
`editor.hover.hidingDelay` in VSCode.
Also this PR adds several tests:
- `test_hover_popover_cancel_hide_on_rehover`: when the cursor returns
to the hover after leaving once within the hiding delay, the hover
should persist while canceling the existing hiding timer.
- `test_hover_popover_enabled_false_ignores_sticky` : when
`hover_popover_enabled` is false, the `hover_popover_sticky` and
`hover_popover_hiding_delay` have no effect(since no hover is shown).
- `test_hover_popover_sticky_delay_restarts_when_mouse_gets_closer`:
when mouse gets closer to hover popover, we expect the timer to reset
and the hover remains visible.
- `test_hover_popover_hiding_delay`: check if the delay(in test, that's
500ms) works.
- `test_hover_popover_sticky_disabled`: when hover_popover_sticky is
false, the hover popover disappears immediately after the cursor leaving
the codes.
- VSCode import test in `settings_store.rs`
Release Notes:
- Added `hover_popover_sticky` and `hover_popover_hiding_delay` settings
to balance responsiveness of hover popovers.

## Context
This PR introduces a `base` field for settings profiles to allow
profiles to either overlay `user` settings or to overlay `default`,
which is simply zed's defaults (user settings are skipped). I'm not
entirely sure I love `default` because it's a bit confusing (there's a
setting called `default` but the default is `user`). Another idea I had
was `factory` (`user` (default) or `factory`) - curious to hear from the
reviewers. This will be useful for those of us who need to quickly flip
to a default state, or a default state with some customizations on top.
Additionally, from what I can tell, VS Code's profile system is more in
line with what this PR is offering in Zed - profiles overlay the default
settings, not the user's customization layer. So this will be familiar
for those users.
I've had no issue with the migrator, code is pretty simple there, but
would love for @smitbarmase to review the migration to make sure I'm not
missing something.

Fixes#51542
Adds a `git_panel.starts_open` setting for parity with `project_panel`.
When set to `true`, the git panel opens automatically in new workspaces
that don't have saved panel state.
The default is `false`, matching current behavior (non-breaking).
### Usage
```json
{
"git_panel": {
"starts_open": true
}
}
```
### Implementation
Follows the same pattern as `project_panel.starts_open`:
1. `GitPanelSettingsContent` - added `starts_open: Option<bool>` to the
settings schema
2. `GitPanelSettings` - added `starts_open: bool` field
3. `GitPanel` Panel impl - overrides `starts_open()` to read from
settings
Release Notes:
- Added `git_panel.starts_open` setting to control whether the git panel
opens automatically in new workspaces (default: false)

Related issue #48600, following #48904
Setting `"formatter": null` does not actually disable the formatter, as
it is functionally equivalent to leaving the setting undefined. In this
case, Zed falls back to the default behavior—either "auto" or a specific
language server, depending on the language.
This PR adds a "none" option to the formatter setting, allowing users to
explicitly disable formatting while keeping `code_actions_on_format`
enabled separately.
```json
"formatter": "none"
```
I still have some doubts about the necessity of this setting itself, but
if it is a desired addition, I will update the documentation
accordingly. If not, please feel free to close this PR.
