Rewrite product prose and local path/command examples across the docs
to match the shipped application (gwen CLI, Gwen config paths, Gwen.app,
com.yrkaierx.Gwen). Upstream distribution channels, service URLs and
package identifiers stay factually intact.
## Summary
- Adds 63 internal links across 41 documentation pages.
- Connects existing terms such as Agent Panel, semantic tokens, edit
predictions, and language-specific debugging to their detailed reference
pages.
- Uses existing wording for 60 links and makes three small wording
changes where a natural anchor did not already exist.
## Why this matters
Readers can now move from overview and configuration pages to the
relevant detailed guidance without searching the documentation manually.
The changes add navigation only. They do not change product behavior or
documented requirements.
## Jev experiment
This PR came from a local experiment using Jev to audit internal links
across the published documentation. The audit scripts are not included
in this PR.
- Code shortlisted 2,715 possible source and destination page pairs.
- Jev made two separate decisions for each pair: whether the link would
help the reader, and which exact existing phrase should become the
anchor.
- Five strong links without existing anchor text went to GPT-5.6 Luna
for minimal rewrite options. Jev then selected among those fixed
options.
- A local review interface surfaced the results for Pass or Fail
decisions before any files changed.
Human review approved 66 changes. Two no longer matched the current
`main` branch, and review removed one circular link, leaving the 63
links in this PR.
## Validation
- `pnpm dlx prettier@3.5.0 <changed docs> --check`
- `lychee --exclude '^http' './docs/src/**/*'` — 0 errors
- `mdbook build docs`
- Verified that the diff adds exactly 63 Markdown links
Release Notes:
- Improved links between related documentation pages.
This PR updates the language extension docs for syntax-based rules,
line-based rules, and context-aware alignment. It is a follow-up to
#33370.

While our extension ecosystem grows more and more, we simultaneously are
also enforcing more and more policies to have a better experience for
our users and ensure extensions meet a minimum standard. However, at the
same time, it has become increasingly difficult for extension authors to
keep track of what we enforce onto extensions and what specific rules
apply to their extension.
Thus, this PR splits out the publishing guidelines out of the
`Developing Extensions` page in an effort to make it easier to go
through our requirements and make it harder to miss those. This also
paves the way for more detailed publishing prerequisites, so that both
authors can more quickly see what applies to their extension as well as
reviewers having easier ways to point authors to what they are missing.

Release Notes:
- Added the option for highlights from languages to specify fallbacks.
That means that if you have a pattern with the captures `@second.capture
@first.capture`, Zed will first try resolving a highlight from your
theme for the code fragment using the first capture, then look for the
second capture if no match for the first capture could be found.

## Summary
Adds three syntax highlighting captures that are used across multiple
language definitions but were missing from the documentation table in
`docs/src/extensions/languages.md`.
## Added Captures
| Capture | Used In |
|---------|---------|
| `@constant.builtin` | C, Go, C++, YAML, TSX |
| `@type.builtin` | C++, Python, Rust, JavaScript, TSX |
| `@variable.parameter` | TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Rust, TSX,
Diff |
## Context
While working on a [PR to add named argument highlighting to the PHP
extension](https://github.com/zed-extensions/php/pull/95), I initially
used `@label` because the documentation didn't list
`@variable.parameter`. A reviewer pointed out that `@variable.parameter`
is actually supported and preferred - the docs were just outdated.
This PR fixes that documentation gap.
Release Notes:
- N/A
Many editors such as vim and emacs support "modelines", a comment at the
beginning of the file that allows the file type to be explicitly
specified along with per-file specific settings
- The amount of configurations, style and settings mapping cannot be
handled in one go, so this opens up a lot of potential improvements.
- I left out the possiblity to have "zed" specific modelines for now,
but this could be potentially interesting.
- Mapping the mode or filetype to zed language names isn't obvious
either. We may want to make it configurable.
This is my first contribution to zed, be kind. I struggled a bit to find
the right place to add those settings. I use a similar approach as done
with editorconfig (merge_with_editorconfig). There might be better ways.
Closes#4762
Release Notes:
- Add basic emacs/vim modeline support.
Supersedes #41899, changes:
- limit reading to the first and last 1kb
- add documentation
- more variables handled
- add Arc around ModelineSettings to avoid extra cloning
- changed the way mode -> language mapping is done, thanks to
`modeline_aliases` language config
- drop vim ex: support
- made "Local Variables:" handling a separate commit, so we can drop it
easily
- various code style improvements

### Description
The `installing-extensions.md` guide was missing the directory path for
the Windows platform. It currently only lists the paths for macOS and
Linux. This PR adds the correct path for Windows users
(`%LOCALAPPDATA%\zed\extensions`).

Deals with https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/5259
Highlights brackets with different colors based on their depth.
Uses existing tree-sitter queries from brackets.scm to find brackets,
uses theme's accents to color them.
https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/cc5f3aba-22fa-446d-9af7-ba6e772029da
1. Adds `colorize_brackets` language setting that allows, per language
or globally for all languages, to configure whether Zed should color the
brackets for a particular language.
Disabled for all languages by default.
2. Any given language can opt-out a certain bracket pair by amending the
brackets.scm like `("\"" @open "\"" @close) ` -> `(("\"" @open "\""
@close) (#set! rainbow.exclude))`
3. Brackets are using colors from theme accents, which can be overridden
as
```jsonc
"theme_overrides": {
"One Dark": {
"accents": ["#ff69b4", "#7fff00", "#ff1493", "#00ffff", "#ff8c00", "#9400d3"]
}
},
```
Release Notes:
- Added bracket colorization (rainbow brackets) support. Use
`colorize_brackets` language setting to enable.
