Xin Zhao 731096c09a Fix project path handling when connecting from Unix to Windows remotes (#62038)
# Objective

Follow-up of #61374.

Zed now supports Windows as a remote target, but when connecting from a
Unix platform to Windows, some path handling still uses the native
client's path style (Unix) to construct paths, which causes weird path
displays in different areas.

One of them is the project path stored in the `settings.json` file,
which is related to the open path picker in the codebase:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/0500fd9ee99a4a98b36e339f3674e391697690fd/crates/open_path_prompt/src/open_path_prompt.rs#L668-L679
For example, if I have a remote project at `D:\code\test_python` and
want to open it in remote development, I usually use path completions,
with `D:\code\` as the parent path and `test_python` as the selected
candidate. Zed directly joins them using `Path::join` on the Unix
platform, which results in `D:\code\/test_python`.

A second thing I found is the displayed name for the git repo. The
related source code is:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/0500fd9ee99a4a98b36e339f3674e391697690fd/crates/title_bar/src/title_bar.rs#L262-L268
Also taking `D:\code\test_python` as an example: the passed-in
`common_dir_abs_path` is `D:\code\test_python\.git`, and
`repo_identity_path()` directly uses `Path::file_name()` and
`Path::parent()` from the standard library to handle this:

https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/0500fd9ee99a4a98b36e339f3674e391697690fd/crates/project/src/git_store.rs#L9956-L9965
Ideally, this function should return `D:\code\test_python`. But due to
the platform mismatch, `D:\code\test_python\.git` is returned; after
further processing in the title bar, we get `D:\code\test_python\` as
the displayed name, while the expected display name is `test_python`.

In the past, only Unix-like systems could serve as remote servers, and
their path separator (`/`) is valid on Windows, so everything looked
fine. But Unix does not support `\` as a valid separator — that's the
root cause. We need to use `PathStyle`, which is designed for processing
paths across platforms, to deal with these cases.

## Solution

- Added new APIs `PathStyle::parent()` and `PathStyle::file_name()`,
which serve as replacements for `Path::parent()` and `Path::file_name()`
to process paths cross-platform.
- Adopted the new APIs in `repo_identity_path()`, and updated the
relevant call sites.
- For the open path picker, use `PathStyle::join_path()` instead of
`Path::join`.

## Testing

The added `PathStyle::parent()` and `PathStyle::file_name()` are covered
by detailed unit tests. These tests verify that the behavior matches the
corresponding methods in `Path`, just independent of the host platform.

For the path display issues, I built and tested manually; a comparison
is attached in the Showcase section.

## Other things to note
This PR also did a little refactoring: it moved the `PathStyle`-related
tests from the `util` crate to the `path` crate, and updated the
documentation to reflect that Windows can serve as a remote platform.

The recent project picker also suffers from the same cross-platform bug,
but it is not fixed here, because a clean fix requires dealing with
database storage, unlike the direct API changes made here. I will
address it in a follow-up PR.

This PR looks very large, but most of the changes are the test migration
and the new API implementation. I hope the unit tests and comments can
offload some of the burden for reviewers.

5c12547418 docs: document llvm-objcopy --strip-debug step when self-building remote_server (#57655)
Self-Review Checklist:

Documents the `llvm-objcopy --strip-debug` step that
`script/bundle-linux` runs after `cargo build`. Without it, self-built
`remote_server` binaries are ~462 MB instead of ~62 MB and behave
differently from the prebuilt downloads.

Two contributors converged on the same fix in the issue thread; this PR
is a docs-only version of their suggestion, plus the musl/static variant
that `script/bundle-linux` actually uses for the official Linux release.

Miguel Raz Guzmán Macedo a2da6d971f Fix grammatical errors throughout the documentation (#58183)
Fixes a batch of grammatical mistakes found across the `docs/` folder:
typos/misspellings, subject-verb agreement errors, missing and
duplicated words, article errors (`a`/`an`), wrong word forms, and
punctuation issues (doubled periods, unclosed parentheses).

Scope is limited to prose in `docs/src/**`; no behavior, settings, or
code changes. 33 files updated, 49 lines changed.

Representative fixes:

- `globs.md`: "features varies" -> "features"; "platforms libc" ->
"platform's libc".
- `installation.md`: "the follow macOS releases" -> "the following macOS
releases".
- `key-bindings.md`: "command pallets" -> "command palette's".
- `linux.md`: capitalization after a period; "able to the environment
variable" -> "able to set the environment variable"; "These feature also
requires" -> "This feature also requires".
- `multibuffers.md`: "Window/Linux" -> "Windows/Linux"; added a missing
closing parenthesis.
- `reference/all-settings.md`: several agreement/article/missing-word
fixes plus an unclosed parenthesis.
- `languages/*`: "partent" -> "parent", "complimentary" ->
"complementary", "setup" -> "set up", "is enabled" -> "are enabled", and
similar.

Katie GeerandClaude Opus 4.6 37d903eccb docs: SEO content improvements for AI section (#49128)
## Summary

- **Add category-claiming keywords** to 4 key AI doc intros (overview,
agent panel, edit prediction, configuration) so Google associates these
pages with "AI code editor" search terms
- **Expand AI overview into a pillar page** with substantive feature
summaries and a "How Zed approaches AI" differentiation section (open
source, native performance, multi-model, external agents, privacy)
- **Improve internal linking** across 11 files to strengthen the AI
topic cluster

## Internal linking changes

**Inbound links (non-AI docs → AI section):**
- `editing-code.md` → AI overview
- `terminal.md` → Inline Assistant + Agent Panel
- `configuring-zed.md` → AI Configuration
- `remote-development.md` → AI overview

**Fix orphans within AI section:**
- `billing.md` linked to subscription + plans (was orphaned with zero
internal links)
- `tools.md`, `rules.md`, `llm-providers.md`, `tool-permissions.md`,
`models.md` all now cross-link to related AI pages

**Outbound:**
- `overview.md` → `zed.dev/ai` and `getting-started.md`

## Test plan

- [ ] `mdbook build docs` succeeds
- [ ] Spot-check links resolve correctly in built output
- [ ] Review overview.md content for docs voice fit

specific examples
- Remove taboo words ("seamless", "naturally extends")
- Remove emotional language ("We're excited/thrilled/happy")
- Remove marketing patterns ("Stay tuned!", exclamation points)
- Remove unverifiable claims ("world's fastest")
- Replace hedging with direct statements
- Remove promotional emphasis (`_free_`, `**_for free_**`)

Conrad Irwin df1f082755 SSH remoting: terminal & tasks (#15321)
This also rolls back the `TerminalWorkDir` abstraction I added for the

Danilo Leal 8d653f5d7d docs: Add tweaks to the "Remote development" page (#12267)
Mostly tiny stuff. Quick run-down of the changes:
- Using `*Note*` instead of `NOTE` for the blockquote callouts
(piggybacking from https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/11724)
- Use hyphens for bullet lists instead of asterisks
- Capitalize every (applicable) mention to Zed
- Capitalize mentions of other products (e.g., google cloud → Google
Cloud)
- Swap e.g. → for example — for clarity (latinisms may be unfamiliar for
some non-native English speakers, surprisingly!)

Danilo Leal 238232c392 docs: Standardize "Note" blockquote usage (#11724)
Standardize the blockquote "Notes" usage, so all places are using the
`>` blockquote notation, as well as a consistent style for the "Note"
word.

PS: Thought that bolding the word "**Note**" would make for a higher
visual distinction, so went for it in all existing cases! No strong
feelings, though; happy to roll back to just "Note:" if that's
preferrable!
