Finn EversandDanilo Leal c49ffd1e88 Fix bad GitHub merge queue merge (#54721)
No, sadly, the title is not a typo. See
https://www.githubstatus.com/incidents/zsg1lk7w13cf for the context.
I'll read with joy and popcorn through that root cause analysis.

It makes literally zero sense what happened here, but for some completly
bonkers reason GitHub completely messed up the merge queue with
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/54632.

I have no idea how it happened. It makes literally zero sense. A PR
going into the merge queue should have the same LoC when getting out of
it. GitHub obviously does not check this. GitHub causes extra work with
a feature that is supposed to save time.

Thanks, I guess.

João Soares a17a2883bd theme_selector: Revert theme when modal is dismissed by clicking outside (#52773)
Context

Related to #52118

Found this while looking into the theme selector filtering bug: clicking
outside the theme selector (or icon theme selector) keeps the previewed
theme applied instead of reverting. `hide_modal()` doesn't go through
the Picker's `dismissed()` callback, so the in-memory theme override
sticks around without being written to `settings.json`.

This PR only fixes the click-outside behavior. The filtering issue from
#52118 is separate.

## Demo

**After (fix):**

## How to review

Two files, symmetrical changes. Look at:
- `on_before_dismiss` in `theme_selector.rs` and
`icon_theme_selector.rs`
- The extracted `revert_theme()` method on both delegates, now shared
between `dismissed()` and `on_before_dismiss`

João Soares 8b4f49da51 theme_selector: Preserve selected theme after empty filter (#52461)
When filtering themes with a query that matches nothing (e.g., "zzz"),
`show_selected_theme` returned `None` and overwrote `selected_theme`.
Clearing the filter then lost track of the previous selection and
defaulted to index 0.

The fix only updates `selected_theme` when `show_selected_theme` returns
`Some`. Same change in both the theme selector and the icon theme
selector.

## Context

When `update_matches` runs a filter that yields zero results,
`show_selected_theme` returns `None`. The old code unconditionally
assigned that back to `selected_theme`, wiping out the previous
selection. When the user clears the filter, the selector falls into the
`query.is_empty() && selected_theme.is_none()` branch and resets to
index 0 instead of restoring the original pick.

### After:

https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/72348666-8dbb-4f35-9446-fa2618340b6c

## How to review

The fix is the same one-line change in two files:
1. `crates/theme_selector/src/theme_selector.rs` — line 458
2. `crates/theme_selector/src/icon_theme_selector.rs` — line 272

The rest is test infrastructure:
3. `crates/theme/src/registry.rs` — `register_test_themes` /
`register_test_icon_themes` helpers
4. Tests in both selector files covering the empty filter → clear filter
flow

Danilo Leal c246737d43 ui: Refactor the Button component icon methods (#51496)
Previously, if you wanted to have a button that contains icons on both
edges, you'd need to use a `ButtonLike` component, which takes any
children. Meanwhile, the `Button` would only take one icon, where you
could control its position through the `IconPosition` enum. This has
always felt unnecessarily limiting. So, this PR removes this limitation
by adding two new methods to the button: `start_icon` and `end_icon`.

In the meantime, I have also been bothered by the unnecessary
indirection in the `IconButton` due to the existence of the `ButtonIcon`
component. So I figured I could also completely eliminate that by adding
some of its methods directly to the `IconButton` and in the Button, just
using a regular `Icon` component.

---
## Before
```rust
Button::new("id", "Label")
    .icon(IconName::Plus)
    .icon_position(IconPosition::Start)
    .icon_size(IconSize::Small)
    .icon_color(Color::Muted)
```

## After
```rust
Button::new("id", "Label")
    .start_icon(Icon::new(IconName::Check))
    .end_icon(Icon::new(IconName::ChevronDown).size(IconSize::XSmall))
```

This should have no visual impact to the UI.

Connor Tsui 088b1fbfff Allow dynamic set_theme based on Appearance (#42812)
Tracking Issue (does not close):
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/35552

This is somewhat of a blocker for
https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/40035 (but also the current
behavior doesn't really make sense).

The current behavior of `ThemeSelectorDelegate::set_theme` (the theme
selector menu) is to simply set the in-memory settings to `Static`,
regardless of if it is currently `Dynamic`. The reason this doesn't
matter now is that the `theme::set_theme` function that updates the
user's settings file _will_ make this check, so dynamic settings stay
dynamic in `settings.json`, but not in memory.

But this is also sort of strange, because `theme::set_theme` will set
the setting of whatever the old appearance was to the new theme name. In
other words, if I am currently on a light mode theme and I change my
theme to a dark mode theme using the theme selector, the `light` field
of `theme` in `settings.json` is set to a dark mode theme!

_I think this is because displaying the new theme in the theme selector
does not update the global context, so
`ThemeSettings::get_global(cx).theme.name(appearance).0` returns the
original theme appearance, not the new one._

---

This PR makes `ThemeSelectorDelegate::set_theme` keep the current
`ThemeSelection`, as well as changes the behavior of the
`theme::set_theme` call to always choose the correct setting to update.

One edge case that might be slightly strange now is that if the user has
specified the mode as `System`, this will now override that with the
appearance of the new theme. I think this is fine, as otherwise a user
might set a dark theme and nothing will change because the
`ThemeAppearanceMode` is set to `light` or `system` (where `system` is
also light).

I also have an `unreachable!` in there that I'm pretty sure is true but
I don't really know how to formally prove that...

Finn Evers a164b90ea2 theme_selector: Fix mouse clicks not updating the theme properly (#40090)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/40080

Follow-up to https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/39720

We were already doing this for icon themes, but not for normal themes.

Issue here is that we would only update the `cx.theme()` on the next
frame. On mouse confirmation, we would override the theme and confirm it
on the same frame, yet the global would only be peropely updated on the
next frame and then instantly reset to the new settings file, which
would again be the old theme. This caused a flicker and the selection to
not persist.. Keyboard interactions worked still, because there would be
a rendered frame inbetween selection and confirmation.

Smit Barmase 7a24e10a91 Fix crash when filtering items in Picker (#37929)
Closes #37617

We're already using `get` in a bunch of places, this PR updates the
remaining spots to follow the same pattern. Note that the `ix` we read
in `render_match` can sometimes be stale.

The likely reason is that we run the match-update logic asynchronously
(see
[here](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/138117e0b15664079f5526cb56168750382b49b9/crates/picker/src/picker.rs#L643)).
That means it's possible to render items after the list's [data

but before the [list

in which case the `ix` can be greater than that of our updated data.

Smit Barmase b4b4375cc4 editor: Improve code completion filtering to provide fewer and more accurate suggestions (#32928)
Closes #32756

- Uses `filter_text` from LSP source to filter items in completion list.
This fixes noisy lists like on typing `await` in Rust, it would suggest
`await.or`, `await.and`, etc., which are bad suggestions. Fallbacks to
label.
- Add `penalize_length` flag to fuzzy matcher, which was the default
behavior across. Now, this flag is set to `false` just for code
completion fuzzy matching. This fixes the case where if the query is
`unreac` and the completion items are `unreachable` and
`unreachable!()`, the item with a shorter length would have a larger
score than the other one, which is not right in the case of
auto-complete context. Now these two items will have the same fuzzy
score, and LSP `sort_text` will take over in finalizing its ranking.
- Updated test to be more utility based rather than example based. This
will help to iterate/verify logic faster on what's going on.

should be used when the system is in light mode and dark mode,
respectively.

The `mode` field is optional and indicates which icon theme should be
used:

is provided by the framework when updating an entity.
- `&mut Window` Broken out of `&mut WindowContext` which no longer
exists. Every method that once took `&mut WindowContext` now takes `&mut
Window, &mut App` and every method that took `&mut ViewContext<T>` now
takes `&mut Window, &mut Context<T>`

Not pictured here are the two other failed attempts. It's been quite a
month!

- Adds the Switch component
- Updates `Selected`, `Selectable` -> `ToggleState`, `Toggleable`
- Adds `checkbox` and `switch` functions to align better with other
elements in our layout system.

We decided not to merge Switch and Checkbox. However, in a followup I'll
introduce a Toggle or AnyToggle enum so we can update
`CheckboxWithLabel` -> `ToggleWithLabel` as this component will work
exactly the same with either a Checkbox or a Switch.

Marshall Bowers 5fffff5036 theme: Turn ThemeRegistry into a trait (#20076)
This PR converts the `ThemeRegistry` type into a trait instead of a
concrete implementation.

This allows for the extension store to depend on an abstraction rather
than the concrete theme registry implementation.

We currently have two `ThemeRegistry` implementations:

- `RealThemeRegistry` — this was previously the `ThemeRegistry` and
contains the real implementation of the registry.
- `VoidThemeRegistry` — a null object that doesn't have any behavior.

Marshall Bowers e7ccd91ade Add support for specifying both light and dark themes in settings.json (#7404)
This PR adds support for configuring both a light and dark theme in
`settings.json`.

In addition to accepting just a theme name, the `theme` field now also
accepts an object in the following form:

```jsonc
{
  "theme": {
    "mode": "system",
    "light": "One Light",
    "dark": "One Dark"
  }
}
```

Both `light` and `dark` are required, and indicate which theme should be
used when the system is in light mode and dark mode, respectively.

The `mode` field is optional and indicates which theme should be used:
- `"system"` - Use the theme that corresponds to the system's
appearance.
- `"light"` - Use the theme indicated by the `light` field.
- `"dark"` - Use the theme indicated by the `dark` field.

Thank you to @Yesterday17 for taking a first stab at this in #6881!

Release Notes:

- Added support for configuring both a light and dark theme and
switching between them based on system preference.

Marshall Bowers 665993a423 Add support for loading user themes (#7027)
This PR adds support for loading user themes in Zed.

Themes are loaded from the `themes` directory under the Zed config:
`~/.config/zed/themes`. This directory should contain JSON files
containing a `ThemeFamilyContent`.

Here's an example of the general structure of a theme family file:

```jsonc
{
  "name": "Vitesse",
  "author": "Anthony Fu",
  "themes": [
    {
      "name": "Vitesse Dark Soft",
      "appearance": "dark",
      "style": {
        "border": "#252525",
        // ...
      }
    }
  ]
}
```

Themes placed in this directory will be loaded and available in the
theme selector.

Release Notes:

- Added support for loading user themes from `~/.config/zed/themes`.

Marshall Bowers 4349322198 Rework access to ThemeRegistry global (#7023)
This PR reworks how we access the `ThemeRegistry` global.

Previously we were making calls directly on the context, like
`cx.global::<ThemeRegistry>`. However, one problem with this is that it
spreads out the knowledge of exactly what type is stored in the global.

In order to make it easier to adjust the type we store in the context
(e.g., wrapping the `ThemeRegistry` in an `Arc`), we now call methods on
the `ThemeRegistry` itself for accessing the global.

It would also be interesting to see how we could prevent access to the
`ThemeRegistry` without going through one of these dedicated methods 🤔

Marshall Bowers 230c5e0d38 Add experimental.theme_overrides to settings file (#6791)
This PR adds **experimental** support for overriding theme values in the
current theme.

Be advised that both the existence of this setting and the structure of
the theme itself are subject to change.

But this is a first step towards allowing Zed users to customize or
bring their own themes.

### How it works

There is a new `experimental.theme_overrides` setting in
`settings.json`.

This accepts an object containing overrides for values in the theme. All
values are optional, and will be overlaid on top of whatever theme you
currently have set by the `theme` field.

There is JSON schema support to show which values are supported.

### Example

Here's an example of it in action:

Marshall Bowers dc67b7bcaa Rename h_stack and v_stack to h_flex and v_flex, respectively (#4053)
This PR renames the `h_stack` and `v_stack` to `h_flex` and `v_flex`,
respectively.

We were previously using `h_stack` and `v_stack` to match SwiftUI, but
`h_flex` and `v_flex` fit better with the web/flexbox terminology that
the rest of GPUI uses.

Additionally, we were already calling the utility functions used to
implement `h_stack` and `v_stack` by the new names.
