Ben Brandt 10c8e0e3d7 acp: Support embedded resources in tool call content (#59821)
We weren't handling these really before, just rendering the URI. This
should provide best-effort support for what we can render.

Richard Feldman e2b15e11e2 Allow sandboxed Git writes from worktrees (#57981)
Agent terminal sandboxing now protects `.git` metadata by default and
exposes an explicit `allow_git_access` approval. Without it, file
contents of the `.git` directories for opened worktrees and discovered
repositories (including a linked worktree's common `.git`) cannot be
read or written, though their metadata stays visible; when approved,
those Git directories become writable so commands like fetch/commit
work. SSH commit signing keeps working because the inherited
`SSH_AUTH_SOCK` is allowed as local Unix-socket IPC, which does not let
sandboxed commands send network packets to other machines. The Seatbelt
profile also allows PTY terminal-control ioctls so signing/passphrase
prompts can manage terminal state.

This intentionally restricts only `.git` itself (whose location we know
exactly, including the worktree case) rather than
`.gitignore`/`.gitattributes`/`.gitmodules`, since those can be nested
arbitrarily and the goal is to keep the policy expressible as a plain
deny-by-default allowlist that will port to Linux and Windows sandboxes
later.

Closes AI-334

Release Notes:

- Improved agent terminal sandboxing for Git metadata, Git worktrees,
and SSH commit signing.

d39cbcfc4c agent: Model sandbox network escalation as a host allowlist (#59219)
Third of a four-PR stack adding hostname-allowlisted network access to
agent terminal sandboxing. Stacked on #59218 — review/merge #59217 and
#59218 first.

Replaces the boolean `allow_network` terminal-sandbox escalation with a
hostname allowlist. The `terminal` tool now takes `allow_hosts` (exact
hostnames or leading-`*.` subdomain wildcards, validated up front) and
`allow_all_hosts` as a broad escape hatch. Approval prompts name the
requested hosts, thread grants and persistent "allow always" settings
cover requests via host-pattern subsumption the same way write paths use
subtree containment, and the authorization card in the agent panel lists
the requested hosts.

Host allowlists aren't enforced yet in this PR: `SandboxWrap` carries
the allowlist, but any network request still maps to unrestricted egress
at the Seatbelt layer, matching previous behavior. Enforcement via the
in-process proxy lands in the final PR of the stack. All of this is
behind the existing sandboxing feature flag. For non-local projects
(where the loopback proxy won't apply), host requests are widened to
"arbitrary network access" before prompting so approvals match
enforcement. Old persisted `network: bool` authorization details still
deserialize via a serde alias.

Richard FeldmanandMartinYe1234 356c8cae07 Wrap agent terminal commands in macOS Seatbelt sandbox (#57431)
Stacked on top of #57430.

When the `sandboxing` feature flag is on (macOS only), agent-run
terminal commands are launched under `/usr/bin/sandbox-exec` with a
per-command Seatbelt policy:

- **Reads:** any path on the filesystem.
- **Writes:** each project worktree plus a per-command `$TMPDIR`.
- **Network:** blocked.

The model can request relaxations on individual calls via three new
input flags on the `terminal` tool:

- `allow_network: true`
- `allow_fs_write: true`
- `unsandboxed: true`

Each one triggers a separate always-prompt user approval (bypassing any
`always_allow` rules, since escalation is a stronger trust boundary than
the baseline command approval). The flags are silently ignored when
sandboxing is off, so the model can't surreptitiously change runtime
behavior by setting them in the no-op case.

The per-command tempdir is provisioned regardless of sandbox state so
the model can't infer whether the sandbox is in effect by looking at
`$TMPDIR`.

The Seatbelt config file's lifetime is tied to the `Terminal` entity via
an opaque RAII handle (`SandboxConfigHandle = Box<dyn Any + Send>`), so
cancellation paths drop it automatically.

### Notes for review

- The writable scope passed to the sandbox is the project's worktree
paths plus the per-command tempdir, **not** the resolved `cd` working
directory — `cd` is model-controlled, and using it as the writable scope
would let the model widen its own write permissions outside the project.
- The new tool flags are always present in the JSON schema (with
`#[serde(default)]`), even when the sandbox prompt section isn't
rendered. The system prompt only documents them when the section is
present, so the model shouldn't try to use them when it's not — but the
schema doesn't actively reject them, just ignores them.
- I opted not to add an end-to-end test for the escalation prompt path:
the existing `FakeThreadEnvironment` ignores the new params and toggling
the feature flag in tests is more wiring than felt worth it for a first
cut. The pure-function pieces (`sandbox_approval_title`, schema,
deserialization) are covered, and the sandbox crate itself has
end-to-end tests that actually invoke `sandbox-exec`.

2b80de1af5 Render images in agent threads (#46167)
Now when the agent reads images (which the tool now explicitly
advertises to agents that it is capable of; previously the tool said it
could only read text even though it can actually read images), we see
them in the thread, and also they are auto-expanded by default so you
can see them when scrolling through:

<img width="725" height="1019" alt="Screenshot 2026-01-06 at 2 57 11 PM"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/5c908bad-48f2-46c2-afaa-7f189a178e05"
/>

This also adds a visual regression test that verifies images render
correctly in the agent thread view.

Unlike our previous visual tests, this one only renders the agent panel,
not the entire Zed window.

The "screenshot" it generates (rendered to a Metal texture) is from
completely mocked/simulated data structures, and looks like this:

<img width="546" height="984" alt="Screenshot 2026-01-06 at 2 54 41 PM"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/89a0921f-59e9-4dfe-94b2-4c3b625a851b"
/>

## Changes

- **New visual test**: `agent_thread_with_image` renders an
`AcpThreadView` containing a tool call with image content (the Zed app
icon)
- **Test infrastructure**: Added `StubAgentServer` helper and required
feature flags for visual testing
- **Test-support API**: Added `expand_tool_call()` method to
`AcpThreadView` to allow expanding tool calls for visual testing
- **Baseline screenshot**: Included baseline image showing the Zed logo
rendered in a tool call output

## How to run

```bash
# Run the visual tests
cargo run -p zed --bin visual_test_runner --features visual-tests
# Update baselines if UI intentionally changed
Daiki Takagi 0a57c2456f acp_thread: Decode file:// mention paths so non-ASCII names render correctly (#44983)
## Summary
This fixes a minor bug I found #44981
- Fix percent-encoded filenames appearing in agent mentions after
message submission.
- Decode file:// paths in MentionUri::parse using the existing
urlencoding crate (already used elsewhere in the codebase).
- Add tests for non-ASCII file URIs.
Julia Ryan 5a5b5ae2bb Remove workspace-hack (#40216)
We've been considering removing workspace-hack for a couple reasons:
- Lukas ran into a situation where its build script seemed to be causing
spurious rebuilds. This seems more likely to be a cargo bug than an
issue with workspace-hack itself (given that it has an empty build
script), but we don't necessarily want to take the time to hunt that
down right now.
- Marshall mentioned hakari interacts poorly with automated crate
updates (in our case provided by rennovate) because you'd need to have
`cargo hakari generate && cargo hakari manage-deps` after their changes
and we prefer to not have actions that make commits.
Currently removing workspace-hack causes our workspace to grow from
~1700 to ~2000 crates being built (depending on platform), which is
mainly a problem when you're building the whole workspace or running
tests across the the normal and remote binaries (which is where
feature-unification nets us the most sharing). It doesn't impact
incremental times noticeably when you're just iterating on `-p zed`, and
we'll hopefully get these savings back in the future when
rust-lang/cargo#14774 (which re-implements the functionality of hakari)
is finished.
