gwen: Purge remaining Zed branding from user-facing surfaces
Sweep every user-visible product string to Gwen: app menus (Quit, Hide, Gwen Repository), feedback links (repo/issues now point at github.com/kk376/zed, email to yenru@yrkaierx.com), move-to-Applications and update dialogs, provider and settings copy, CLI help, installer and desktop/flatpak/snap/plist metadata. Rename user-facing settings values with back-compat aliases: base_keymap "Gwen" (accepts "Zed"), fonts ".GwenMono"/".GwenSans" (accept ".ZedMono"/".ZedSans"), icon theme "Gwen (Default)". Fix F10 app-menu keymap arguments to "Gwen" and align the Windows installer AppMutex with release_channel::app_identifier(). Internal identifiers, wire protocol names, upstream service URLs and legal attribution are intentionally kept. |

Add support for "..." in edit_predictions.disabled_globs (#64540)
## Objective Let users and projects add edit prediction exclusion patterns without repeating defaults or inherited patterns. Part of #64399. ## Solution Extend the `"..."` convention from #62769, #64222, #64440, and #64484 to `edit_predictions.disabled_globs` using `SplicingVec`. Inherited patterns are inserted at `"..."`, and duplicates retain their first occurrence. Omitting the marker replaces the list, `[]` clears it, and omitting the setting preserves inheritance. Opening an absent setting now initializes it with `["..."]` instead of clearing inherited patterns, and the selection is located by parsing the JSON instead of a regex, so a commented-out or nested `"disabled_globs"` can no longer capture it. Cursor imports append `"..."` like the `files.exclude` import does, so Zed's sensitive-file defaults survive an import; empty lists and empty or literal `"..."` entries are dropped, matching `enabled_patterns`. ## Testing Tested on macOS with settings merge and loading tests, Cursor import tests, the UI settings update and selection path (including commented-out and nested decoy keys), the new `settings_json` key-path lookup, and Copilot integration coverage. To check manually, configure custom disabled patterns alongside `"..."` and confirm that both custom patterns and inherited sensitive-file patterns remain disabled. Repeat without `"..."` and with `[]` to verify replacement and clearing. Opening the setting when it is absent should preserve inherited patterns. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I’ve reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed’s UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - Added support for `"..."` in `edit_predictions.disabled_globs` so custom patterns can extend inherited exclusions, and fixed "Configure Excluded Files" selecting the wrong list when a commented-out `disabled_globs` precedes it. --------- Co-authored-by: Kirill Bulatov <kirill@zed.dev> |

Import VS Code files.exclude into file_scan_exclusions (#64492)
## Objective Import VS Code’s `files.exclude` into `file_scan_exclusions`. The previous `files.watcherExclude` mapping was dead code: it expected an array, while VS Code stores an object of `pattern: bool`. `files.watcherExclude` only stops watching, and the files stay visible in VS Code, so it is not a match for `file_scan_exclusions`. `files.exclude` hides files from the explorer and search, which matches `file_scan_exclusions`, and its default set is nearly identical to Zed's. Related to #62769, reported during the review of #64484. A meta follow-up to #64399. ## Solution Import nonempty `files.exclude` patterns enabled with `true`, ignoring disabled and malformed entries, including VS Code's `{"when": ...}` form. Append `"..."` so the imported list extends inherited exclusions instead of replacing them. Inputs with no usable patterns leave the inherited list unchanged. `files.watcherExclude` is no longer imported. ## Testing The new regression tests reproduce the bug and verify the fix. To check manually, import `{"files.exclude":{"**/build/**":true,"**/cache/**":false}}` and verify that `file_scan_exclusions` becomes `["**/build/**", "..."]`, and that `.git` stays hidden in the project panel. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I’ve reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed’s UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - Fixed importing VS Code `files.exclude` into `file_scan_exclusions`. --------- Co-authored-by: Kirill Bulatov <kirill@zed.dev> |

Ignore invalid file patterns individually (#64525)
## Objective Prevent one invalid file pattern from discarding valid patterns or causing settings loading to panic. The pre-existing exclusion-matcher bug was reported during review of #64492 (part of #64399). ## Solution Ignore invalid entries individually and log their errors in `file_scan_exclusions`, `file_scan_inclusions`, `file_types`, `hidden_files`, `private_files`, and `read_only_files`. Preserve valid inherited entries without changing `"..."`, replacement, or empty list behavior. Valid brace inclusion patterns remain usable, including when an alternative spans multiple directories. ## Testing Reproduced matcher loss and inclusion and file type panic paths before fixing them. Targeted tests pass on macOS for mixed, inherited, replacement, empty, and all-invalid lists, including inherited `.git` exclusions, private file protections, and inclusion rescans with brace patterns. Windows and Linux execution remains untested. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I’ve reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - Fixed invalid file patterns discarding valid exclusions, hidden file rules, or read-only rules, or causing inclusion settings to panic. Also fixed invalid private file patterns discarding valid protections and invalid file type patterns causing settings loading to panic. --------- Co-authored-by: Kirill Bulatov <kirill@zed.dev> |

Add support for the "..." entry in file_scan_inclusions (#64440)
## Objective Let projects add inclusion patterns without repeating defaults or patterns inherited from user settings. Part of #64399. ## Solution Extend the `"..."` behavior from #62769 and #64222 to `file_scan_inclusions` using the shared merge implementation. `"..."` includes the resolved inherited list, omitting it replaces the list, and `[]` clears it. Duplicate entries retain their first occurrence. Stop importing VS Code’s `files.watcherInclude` as inclusion patterns because it configures additional watch roots rather than overriding Git ignores. ## Testing Tested on macOS with settings merge, VS Code import, and worktree integration tests. Coverage includes preservation of the `.env*` default, layered inheritance, replacement, clearing, and deduplication. The worktree test verifies that inherited and project-specific patterns include Git-ignored files while exclusions still take precedence. To check manually, configure different user and project inclusion patterns and add ignored files matching each. Include `"..."` to retain inherited patterns, then repeat without it and with `[]` to verify replacement and clearing. Confirm that excluded files remain absent. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I’ve reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed’s UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - Added support for `"..."` in `file_scan_inclusions` so project settings can extend inherited inclusion patterns. |

Add support for the "..." entry in read_only_files (#64222)
## Objective Let projects add read-only file patterns without repeating the patterns inherited from user settings. ## Solution Extend the `"..."` behavior introduced in #62769 to `read_only_files`. A `"..."` entry includes the inherited patterns. Omitting it replaces the list, and `[]` clears it. ## Testing Tested on macOS with settings merge, VS Code import, and project integration tests. The project test verifies that user and project patterns both apply while unrelated files remain editable. To check manually, configure different user and project patterns, include `"..."` in the project list, and open matching files. Repeat without `"..."` after restarting Zed to verify replacement. Linux, Windows, and manual app testing were not performed. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I’ve reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed’s UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - Added support for `"..."` in `read_only_files` so project settings can extend inherited read-only patterns. --------- Co-authored-by: Kirill Bulatov <kirill@zed.dev> |

workspace: Add configurable window title formatting (#54379)
## Summary
- Add `window_title_format` and `window_title_separator` settings for
customizing the window title
- Expose `${projectName}`, `${fileName}`, `${filePath}`,
`${relativePath}`, `${fileStem}`, `${remoteName}`, `${remoteHost}`,
`${appName}`, and `${separator}` as the native Zed window-title
variables
- Keep the collab `↗/↙` indicator hard-appended
- Translate VS Code `window.title` / `window.titleSeparator` aliases
into Zed's canonical variables during settings import, including
`${appName}` passthrough support and mapping VS Code's
`${activeEditorMedium}` onto Zed's `${relativePath}`
- Gate path-, remote-, and release-channel-derived lookups on whether
the active template references the corresponding variable, so the
default template avoids the extra work and still uses the existing
`last_window_title` cache to skip redundant platform updates
An alternative approach is at #49638. I went with `${variable}` names
over `$ZED_*`, canonical Zed variable names with VS Code aliases handled
at import time, kept `${separator}` as the only structural token, and
left `${dirty}` out of scope.
## Implementation reasoning and notes
### Variables considered but not included
- **collab/shared indicator variable**: kept hard-appended instead.
Folding it into the template would need whitespace/separator logic the
other variables don't need, and I'd rather not bake those semantics in
without a concrete need for it.
- **dirty variable**: The glyph choice and interaction with OS-level
edited indicators (like macOS's titlebar dot via `set_window_edited`)
felt like a separate design call I wasn't confident making here.
A separator-style config for each of collab/shared/dirty would solve the
above, but I didn't want to add too many additional settings initially.
### Performance
`update_window_title` is on a hot path, so two short-circuits apply:
- Path-, remote-, and release-channel-derived lookups (`absolute_path`,
relative-path string, `file_stem`, `remote_connection_options`,
`ReleaseChannel::try_global`) are gated on `template.contains(...)` via
`WindowTitleNeeds::from_template`, so the default template avoids the
extra work.
- The existing `last_window_title` cache still skips the platform call
when the rendered title is unchanged.

project_panel: Show path tooltip on hover (#63299)
# Objective
The project panel doesn't show a file or folder's actual location on
disk anywhere in the UI — you have to rely on the tab title or context
menu ("Copy Path") to find out where a file actually lives, which is
especially unclear for files with the same name in different folders, or
when a project has multiple worktrees.
## Solution
- Adds a tooltip to each file/folder row in the project panel that shows
the entry's path on hover, with the home directory abbreviated to `~`
(via the existing `PathExt::compact()` utility, consistent with how
paths are already displayed elsewhere, e.g. the Recent Projects list).
## Testing
- Manually tested by hovering over files and folders at various nesting
depths in the project panel and confirming the tooltip shows the correct
path.
- Tested with a project both inside and outside the home directory to
confirm the `~` substitution only applies when appropriate.
- Confirmed existing row behavior (selection, click-to-open,
drag-and-drop, right-click context menu) is unaffected by the added
tooltip.
- Reviewers: hover over any row in the project panel and confirm the
tooltip appears after the normal hover delay and shows the expected
path.
- Tested on macOS only — haven't verified on Linux/Windows.

markdown_preview: Group settings and add automatic preview opening (#63462)
## Objective Markdown preview appearance settings are split between root theme settings and `markdown_preview`, and Markdown files always open as source editors even when a user primarily wants the rendered preview. ## Solution - Group the Markdown preview font settings under `markdown_preview`, migrate their legacy keys across supported settings scopes, and update defaults, Settings UI, and documentation. - Add `markdown_preview.open_markdown_files_in_preview`, defaulting to false. When enabled, clean Markdown opens are replaced by a rendered preview while preserving dirty editors, temporary-tab behavior, pane activation and focus, targeted navigation, workspace restoration, and the escape back to source. ## Testing - Manually verified on macOS that enabling the setting opens Markdown files as preview-only. - `cargo test -p markdown_preview` (three consecutive runs) - `cargo test -p migrator nest_markdown_preview` - `cargo test -p settings_content` - `cargo check -p markdown -p markdown_preview -p migrator -p settings -p settings_content -p settings_ui -p theme_settings -p workspace` - `./script/clippy -p gpui_apple -p markdown -p markdown_preview -p migrator -p settings -p settings_content -p settings_ui -p theme_settings -p workspace --features gpui_apple/runtime_shaders` - `cargo fmt --all -- --check` - `git diff --check` ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable ## Recordings https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/032ab36d-f934-4ef7-aa18-53f3955a7df8 https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/dc872265-2fe0-45ac-95eb-ff820d3a8164 Release Notes: - Added a setting to open Markdown files directly in preview mode and grouped Markdown preview settings together. |

editor: Add optional cursor movement animation (#63195)
# Objective Add an optional smooth cursor movement animation to make cursor position changes easier to follow, especially during larger jumps and multi-cursor editing. Related to #4991. ## Solution - Add a new `cursor_animation.enabled` editor setting, disabled by default. - Animate local bar and block cursors using a damped spring while preserving momentum during rapid cursor movement. - Support multiple local cursors independently. - Continue using the cursor color provided by the active theme. - Snap immediately when scrolling, resizing, or other viewport changes would make interpolation misleading. - Respect the `reduce_motion` setting. - Request animation frames only while an enabled cursor animation is active. Enabling the feature causes additional editor redraws while the cursor is moving, so it is opt-in and the performance cost is mentioned in the setting documentation. ### Attribution The cursor spring physics and four-corner deformation algorithm are adapted from [vscode-neovide-cursor](https://github.com/LengineerC/vscode-neovide-cursor), which is available under the MIT License and inspired by Neovide. The implementation adapts the algorithm to Zed's editor and GPUI architecture, including viewport handling, selection state reconciliation, multi-cursor support, theme integration, and reduced-motion behavior. The attribution and license information are also retained in the source file. ## Testing Automated checks run on Windows: - `cargo fmt --all --check` - `cargo test -p editor cursor_animation --lib` - 15 cursor animation tests passed. The tests cover: - Spring convergence. - Short and long cursor movements. - Mid-animation retargeting and momentum preservation. - Multiple independent cursors. - Selection replacement and state cleanup. - Viewport and scroll changes. - Invalid or unusually large timing values. - Supported cursor shapes. To test manually: 1. Add the following to the settings file: ```json "cursor_animation": { "enabled": true } ``` 2. Move the cursor using typing, arrow keys, mouse clicks, and multi-cursor actions. 3. Toggle the setting off and confirm that cursor rendering immediately returns to its normal behavior. Manual testing was performed on Windows and Linux using a release build from this exact PR branch. Verified that: - Cursor animation is disabled by default. - Enabling `cursor_animation.enabled` is hot-reloaded without restarting Zed. - Disabling the setting immediately restores the original cursor behavior. - Cursor movement remains responsive during typing, keyboard navigation, and mouse navigation. This exact PR branch has not yet been manually tested on macOS. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable ## Showcase https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/17450529-491e-4982-b539-c46e3d5df467 --- Release Notes: - Added an optional cursor movement animation setting. --------- Co-authored-by: Christopher Biscardi <chris@christopherbiscardi.com> |

which_key: Add a pending key binding indicator (#63343)
This PR makes Zed's one-second key binding delay visible. Say both ctrl-w and ctrl-w left have bindings. After you press ctrl-w, Zed waits to see whether left follows. The PR shows that wait in the status bar with a countdown. Hovering the indicator shows which bindings can still match. It also adds a setting to hide the indicator. It does not change how Zed resolves key bindings. <img height="100" alt="dyn-db84a840272e2f6250a3f527a59b1efd" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/e42c6a6c-4677-499f-a1d3-835960ebb21a" /> <br/> <img height="100" alt="dyn-8012278d030b41bc8ebfae1540504eff" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/250928d5-f913-40f0-9068-00ccb5cdf59f" /> <br/> <img height="100" alt="file-5e6ffa90944faa294e7870f471b4e65b" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/c250e6eb-a269-4e2c-a5a0-0be9b5006f99" /> Release Notes: - Added a status bar countdown for pending multi-stroke key bindings. --------- Co-authored-by: Kirill Bulatov <kirill@zed.dev> |

Add on_new_window setting (#63522)
> [!NOTE] > This is a remake of #63335 as it's unlikely to be reopened just from my [mention](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/63335#issuecomment-5452544138). Apologies for the noise! # Objective Closes #59368, where users (including me) are asking for a way to show the Launchpad instead of an empty tab when opening a new window. As per advice from https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/60720#issuecomment-4936162420, adding a separate setting from `restore_on_startup` is more ideal. `on_new_window` allows for two values: - `empty_tab` - `launchpad` (default) ## Testing Added a regression test which opens a new window with `on_new_window` set to `launchpad` and asserts that no item gets opened in the window's pane. I've verified it fails without the setting gate, and confirmed configuring this setting works manually (see Showcase). ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [ ] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable ## Showcase https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/bf339bd1-8c62-4243-ac9d-1045d1a14865 --- Release Notes: - Added `on_new_window` setting to configure the opening of new windows. |

workspace: Add background image setting with offline-resilient loading
Adds a workspace background image that renders behind all UI, configured via a new `background` settings section (path, fit, opacity). The image is loaded asynchronously with a 2-second timeout and is never read on the render path, so an unreachable source (e.g. a dead network mount) cannot block or freeze the workspace. The first successful read is cached under the data directory (written once, never rewritten), and when the source is unavailable the cached image is served from that cache, so the background keeps working offline. |

Support building with corgi (#63396)
[corgi](https://github.com/ConradIrwin/corgi) is a cargo-compatible build tool that runs `build.rs` scripts and proc-macros in a sandbox (no network, no ambient env, reads limited to a package's own `.rs` sources unless declared). This makes Zed buildable under it. Cargo builds (dev and release) are unaffected. ### Changes - **`scratch` patch**: patch `scratch` to a small local copy (`corgi-patches/scratch`) that reads `OUT_DIR` at runtime instead of baking it in at compile time. `cxx-build` writes its shared cxxbridge headers into `scratch::path(...)`; upstream returns a single global dir (outside any action's `OUT_DIR`) that the sandbox can't grant, while this patch gives each build script a private, writable dir in its own entry. webrtc-sys is self-contained, so per-crate scratch dirs are sufficient. Kept local rather than a cxx git fork because a git checkout of cxx needs symlink support that Windows cargo CI lacks. - **Dev asset loading**: add `util::dev_fs_embed!` and switch dev-mode `rust_embed` asset sources (`assets`, `settings`, `grammars`, `agent`, `edit_prediction_cli`) to read from the checkout at runtime, locating the repo root by walking from the executable up to the enclosing `.git`. This avoids baking `CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR` into the binary (corgi rejects artifacts that embed the build-time checkout path, and it's wrong in any other worktree). Release builds still embed via `#[derive(RustEmbed)]`. - **Stop baking checkout paths into artifacts**: drop `gpui::GPUI_MANIFEST_DIR`; resolve `../gpui` from `gpui_apple`'s build script; stage the metal shader into `OUT_DIR` before compiling so the `.metallib` records the output dir, not the checkout; resolve the repo root at runtime in `remote` and `inspector_ui` (removing `inspector_ui`'s `build.rs` / `ZED_REPO_DIR`). - **corgi.toml**: declare the pinned tools (`cmake`, prebuilt libwebrtc via `LK_CUSTOM_WEBRTC`), a release-only `ZED_COMMIT_SHA` probe, and the non-`.rs` / cross-package reads each package performs. ### Validation - `corgi check` + `corgi build`, dev and release, for `zed` (plus `cli`, `remote_server`, `ep`) with a warm C++ cache — clean; built binaries embed no checkout path. - `corgi fmt --check`, `corgi clippy`, and `corgi test` on the changed crates (922 tests pass). - `cargo check -p util` locally; relying on CI for the full cargo build/test matrix. ### Notes for the reviewer - Per the repo rule, the first two lines of `README.md` are the review-confirmation marker; remove them before merging (this is what Danger is failing on). - `remote_server` cross-compilation (linux-musl via zigbuild) is not yet covered by `corgi.toml` — host (macOS arm64) only for now. ### Suggested .rules additions Only if the team wants corgi guidance in `.rules` (it recurred several times here): dev builds must not bake the checkout path into artifacts — no `env!("CARGO_MANIFEST_DIR")` or `file!()`-derived absolute paths in library/binary output. Resolve the repo root at runtime via `util::dev_repo_root()` (walks to `.git`), and use `util::dev_fs_embed!` for dev-mode `rust_embed` sources. Stop re-resolving editorconfig sections on every language settings lookup (#63323)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/59689
Symbolicating the reporter's profile (21s of typing, Windows) showed
`Window::draw` taking 63% of the main thread at ~62 redraws/s (p95 draw
= 40ms), and 30.9% of the *entire* main thread inside
`EditorconfigStore::properties()`:
every `LanguageSettings` lookup — several per frame via
`DisplayMap::tab_size`, `MultiBuffer::language_settings`, indent guides,
and `LspStore::supports_range_formatting` — re-ran the full editorconfig
resolution (ancestor walk plus `ec4rs::Section::apply_to` over every key
of every section) and then cloned the whole `LanguageSettings` struct.
Real-world `.editorconfig` files carry hundreds of irrelevant keys
(`dotnet_*`, `ij_*`, ...), so the per-call map assembly dominated:
`RtlAllocateHeap` 7.3%, `memcmp` 7.0%, `memcpy` 6.6%,
`Properties::find_idx` 5.9% self time.
## Commit 1: resolve only the editorconfig properties Zed reads
- `EditorconfigStore::properties()` now applies only the 7 keys Zed
consumes (`indent_style`, `indent_size`, `tab_width`, `end_of_line`,
`max_line_length`, `insert_final_newline`, `trim_trailing_whitespace`)
instead of materializing every key of every matching section.
- Worktrees with no editorconfig at all now return `None` early instead
of allocating an empty `Properties` and forcing a `LanguageSettings`
clone on every lookup.
- Adds an `editor_render_with_editorconfig` benchmark: maximized window,
file-backed buffer at `src/app/components/editor_pane.ts`, a root
`.editorconfig` shaped after [the second
report](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/59689#issuecomment-5475124891)
(no `root = true`, a `[*]` section with ~3200 keys, 25 sections with
large `{...}` alternation lists) plus a 4-level nested chain, and a
typing workload (insert/delete + cursor moves).

Reduce LLVM IR bloat in closure funnels (#63426)
Follow-up to https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/63232 Cuts closure monomorphization in settings and editor: settings file updates now share one boxed write-pipeline instantiation instead of inlining the `SettingsContent` clone, both `serde_json::to_value` calls, and the JSON diff at every call site; `Editor::register_action` and the settings enum dropdown get the same treatment. Behavior and public signatures are unchanged; thin generic shims remain. Symbol table of the release binary: Before: `update_settings_file_inner` 229 instantiations, inlined `serde_json` `SerializeMap` machinery 6547 copies After: 3 instantiations, 673 copies (-89.7%); `render_dropdown` is no longer instantiated at all With sccache disabled, `cargo clean` and `cargo build --release -p zed`: Before: zed binary 420677880 bytes After: zed binary 396999464 bytes (-5.6%, -23.7MB) Release Notes: - N/A |

editor: Add language detection for untitled buffers (#61412)
# Objective Closes #4868. Reintroduce automatic language detection for user-created untitled buffers without allowing it to override language choices made by users or owning surfaces. More details: + https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/61201 + https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/61351 ## Solution VS Code distinguishes between inferred and explicitly selected languages, and only continues automatic detection in the former state. This change introduces a buffer-local opt-in flag with the same purpose. It defaults to disabled and is enabled only for user-created untitled buffers and restored untitled buffers that did not persist a language. Choosing a language through the language picker disables detection, while automatically detected languages remain eligible for later redetection. Buffers whose language is assigned by their owning surface, such as Channel Notes, never opt in. Rather than adding persisted state or changing the database schema, restoration reuses the existing optional serialized language. An opted-in buffer that remains Plain Text is serialized without a language and resumes detection after restoration. Once automatic detection has selected a language, that language is serialized normally and restoration leaves detection disabled, effectively treating it as an explicit selection. This also matches VS Code's effective default after restoration. Candidate selection adopts VS Code's confidence-group filtering. Results below the minimum confidence are discarded, and candidate groups are accepted only after a clear confidence gap. The detector then selects the first available Zed language without eagerly loading every candidate. I then added a separate switching rule: Zed keeps the current language unless another candidate has a clear confidence advantage, reducing language changes as model scores fluctuate during editing. Model inference runs off-thread on a bounded sample, and stale results are discarded. I also evaluated penalizing YAML and using stricter global switching thresholds, but neither reliably resolves the ambiguity between Markdown and YAML. In the reproduction from #61351, Betlang assigns YAML more than 80% confidence during editing and peaks around 90%. This is reasonable from the content alone: `#` denotes a YAML comment, while `-` denotes a sequence item. Adding ordinary prose or a fenced code block shifts the model strongly toward Markdown. A fixed penalty would overfit this example and risk suppressing legitimate YAML detection. Since known-language buffers do not opt in and manual language selection takes precedence, I consider this level of ambiguity acceptable and prefer not to introduce language-specific score tuning. Model inference itself is fast. As noted in #61201: > In release builds on Linux with an Intel Core i5-13600KF, the `betlang::detect` call alone typically completes within 3 ms when processing the maximum sampled input. The main concern is the work surrounding inference. Without debouncing, rapid typing creates a snapshot and launches a background detection task on every keystroke, while the detected language may change before the user has finished typing. This change therefore adds a 200 ms debounce delay, allowing detection to run and update the language only after the user pauses. ## Testing Automated coverage verifies that short inputs remain Plain Text, sufficient Rust content is detected as Rust, replacing it with Go content triggers redetection, and manually selecting Plain Text prevents subsequent automatic changes. Restoration coverage verifies that a stored language keeps detection disabled, while an empty language-less untitled buffer resumes detection. Beyond the automated tests, I manually tested automatic language detection while editing untitled buffers. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable ## Showcase https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/103fc731-e12e-48d6-ae89-03978f1c9d74 --- Release Notes: - Added automatic language detection for untitled buffers. --------- Co-authored-by: Max Stevens <maxstevens2708@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: Christopher Biscardi <chris@christopherbiscardi.com> |

Enable project search on type by default (#62506)
Closes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/9318 Most of the diff is tests. Notable behavior changes during this mode, compared to current mode: * unsaved changes in multi buffer won't spawn any "save or not" pop-ups during typing — submitting the query still does it, as before. Unsaved files will stay so after being sorted out on typing: we cannot save them by default as file-less buffers need a save modal; Zed should already be able to persist and restore such changes on restart. * gutter may jump during search, if new excerpts with large line numbers appear during query input — yet it would not shrink back to avoid excessive flickering and rewraps Release Notes: - Enabled project search on type by default (use `{ "search": { "search_on_type": false } }` to restore the previous behavior) |

Add support for the "..." entry in file_scan_exclusions (#62769)
## Objective `file_scan_exclusions` replaces the defaults instead of adding to them, so excluding one extra directory means restating all eleven default globs and never picking up defaults added in later Zed releases. ## Solution `file_scan_exclusions` now accepts the `"..."` entry, which expands to the value it overrides, so `["**/node_modules", "..."]` adds to the inherited globs instead of replacing them. Entries listed by name keep their position, and leaving `"..."` out still replaces the list outright, so existing settings behave exactly as they do today. ## Testing - Four unit tests in `crates/settings_content/src/project.rs` cover splicing versus replacing, accumulation across successive layers, and edge cases: a repeated `"..."`, an empty list clearing the value, and a bare `["..."]` leaving it unchanged. - To check by hand: set `"file_scan_exclusions": ["**/node_modules", "..."]` in user settings and confirm `node_modules` disappears from the project panel and file finder while `.git` and `.DS_Store` stay excluded. Remove `"..."` and confirm only `node_modules` is excluded. Repeat in a project's `.zed/settings.json` to confirm it splices the resolved user settings rather than the defaults. - Tested on macOS. This is platform-independent settings-merge logic with no OS-specific code paths, so I did not test Linux or Windows. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I’ve reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed’s UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - Added support for the `"..."` entry in `file_scan_exclusions`. Make file scanner less eager in non-git-tracked directory trees (#62583)
Fixes https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/35780 Collab schema migration PR: https://github.com/zed-industries/cloud/pull/3422 The corresponding database schema migration has been created in the Cloud repo and applied to the production database. Before, Zed scanned each and every entry in the tree down from the directory it was opened in, except gitignored files and scan exclusions. The approach is unchanged, if Zed detects it was open inside a git repository: e.g. the directory open in Zed contains `.git` directory. For the rest of the projects, 2 optimizations are made: * Limit the depth of file scan traversal. Now, `file_scan_depth` (default `5`) restricts Zed from traversing any directory that has same number or more segments in its file path. Such directories behave similar to gitignored directories: their contents is not available in file finder, project search and project panel, but can be lazily traversed when the directory is expanded (e.g. project panel expands it or a nested file is open by path via terminal, etc.) To indicate that to the users, a status entry is shown firs time the limitation is hit in the project: <img width="858" height="133" alt="image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/7da6cfbb-98b4-4cc3-bf2a-8902a9597a15" /> * During the scan, any git repositories that are not direct children of the directory open in Zed (depth >= 2), are traversed and indexed normally, but their git metadata is never fetched eagerly. Only when Zed opens a buffer from that repo the git metadata is fetched and applied. All that combined now uses a way more moderate amount of CPU and RAM when opening `~`: <img width="1717" height="368" alt="Screenshot 2026-08-13 at 17 43 53" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ec83e2a9-f7cc-452b-8eb7-af158284ca4e" /> File scan inclusions and exclusions are considered still for such projects. Set `file_scan_depth` to `0` to enable old behavior. The setting is supported in the project settings, so custom values can be set based on the project's structure. --- Release Notes: - Fixed Zed using a lot of memory and CPU in large, non-git-tracked, directory trees |

editor: Add configurable git gutter width setting (#61304)
## Summary
Adds a `gutter.git_gutter_width` setting that lets users pin the width,
in pixels, of the git diff hunk indicators in the editor gutter.
Previously the width was always derived from the buffer font size
(`floor(0.275 * line_height)`), which can render too thin or too thick
depending on font family and display pixel density. This adds an
optional override:
```json
{
"gutter": {
"git_gutter_width": 6
}
}
```
When the setting is unset (`null`, the default), the width continues to
scale with the buffer font size, so existing behavior is unchanged.
## Motivation
Requested in [discussion
#27799](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/27799). Beyond
the width itself, participants noted the git hunk hit target is
extremely narrow and hard to click. Because the hunk hitbox reuses the
painted strip bounds, setting a wider `git_gutter_width` also widens the
clickable area, addressing that complaint with the same setting.
## Changes
- `settings_content`: new `git_gutter_width: Option<f32>` on
`GutterContent`.
- `editor`: mirror field on the resolved `Gutter`; `gutter_strip_width`
now consults the setting, and the value flows through `diff_hunk_bounds`
(including the deleted-hunk marker) and the gutter layout anchors for
line numbers, folds, and expand toggles.
- `settings` (VS Code import): pass through the new field.
- Docs + `default.json`: document the new setting.
## Notes
- `Eq` was dropped from `GutterContent`/`Gutter` because `f32` is not
`Eq`; this matches the existing `EditorSettingsContent` convention for
float-bearing settings.
Release Notes:
- Added a `gutter.git_gutter_width` setting to configure the width of
git diff indicators in the editor gutter

agent: Re-enable sandbox (#61711)
Fixes the bug that made us remove the sandbox. The bug in question was very dumb: - there is sophisticated machinery for detecting whether a user-granted writable path is swapped out for a symlink in the timing gap between approval and sandbox creation - there was no equivalent machinery to do the same for the (much larger) gap between a user *persisting an approval* (either for the current thread or permanently via settings) - The fix is essentially to store canonical (i.e. absolute and symlink-free at all depths) paths as the source of truth, but retain the raw path for display purposes - On WSL, there is extra care needed becasue of the bidirectional mounting (i.e. `/mnt/c/...` and `\\wsl.localhost\Ubuntu\...`). In particular, `/mnt/c/...` paths, since their inodes do not necessarily pin NTFS file references, weaken the sandbox guarantees, and so we need some extra UI to call this out and docs etc... This also does not remove the feature flag, but just toggles it to "enabled_for_all" --- Release Notes: - N/A or Added/Fixed/Improved ... --------- Co-authored-by: Richard Feldman <oss@rtfeldman.com> Co-authored-by: Jakub Konka <kubkon@jakubkonka.com> Co-authored-by: Danilo Leal <daniloleal09@gmail.com> Co-authored-by: zed-zippy[bot] <234243425+zed-zippy[bot]@users.noreply.github.com> |

Split VSCode and Zed keymap files (#61532)
Currently, Zed's "VSCode" keymap has certain discrepancies that are not changed for compatibility reasons, e.g. opening inline assistant is different in each editor. To simplify the transition, extract VSCode bindings its own keymap so in the future it's simpler to accept changes to each keymap separately. Caveat: people who had ever changed the keymap, will have VSCode keymap in their settings which will change their bindings slightly after this commit is released. settings: Fix VS Code import appending duplicate file associations (#61355)
Closes #56536 ## What & why Running `zed: import vs code settings` more than once kept re-adding the same file extensions to `file_types`, so `files.associations` entries grew without bound: ```json "file_types": { "c": ["*.keymap", "*.keymap", "*.keymap"] } ``` The import merges the VS Code-derived settings into the user's existing settings, and `file_types` values were `ExtendingVec`s, whose `merge_from` appends every incoming value unconditionally. Per review feedback, instead of changing `ExtendingVec`'s merge semantics (it also backs ssh/wsl connections, `private_files`, etc.), this adds a new `ExtendingSet` type that actually behaves like a set, and switches `FileTypeMap`'s file associations to it: - Backed by an insertion-order-preserving `IndexSet`, so users' pattern order round-trips through the settings file unchanged (the import machinery diffs serialized old/new content to produce edits; a sorted set would reorder existing arrays). - Merging only accumulates new values, so re-importing an already-present association is a no-op. - Since it's a real set, deserialization also collapses duplicates that earlier imports already wrote into the settings file. - `ExtendingVec` and all its other users are untouched. ## Testing - Added a `test_vscode_import` case that re-imports an already-present `files.associations` entry and asserts the extension isn't duplicated. It fails before the change and passes after. - `cargo test -p settings -p settings_content -p language` pass. - `./script/clippy -p settings -p settings_content -p language -p recent_projects -p json_schema_store` is clean. Release Notes: - Fixed importing VS Code settings repeatedly adding duplicate `file_types` entries for `files.associations`. --------- Co-authored-by: Christopher Biscardi <chris@christopherbiscardi.com> |

The root cause: the JSON schema generator uses `replace_subschema` to inject installed language names as the allowed properties of a named type. The `languages` field backed by `LanguageToSettingsMap` (a named newtype) got this treatment; `file_types` was backed by a raw `HashMap<Arc<str>, ExtendingVec<String>>` with no named type to target. The fix introduces a `FileTypeMap` newtype parallel to `LanguageToSettingsMap` and wires it into the same schema-injection path. Video of manual test below : [Screencast from 2026-06-05 00-04-16.webm](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/5d8afb60-d566-4c99-ad2a-66ebbb47ed2e) ## How to Review - `crates/settings_content/src/language.rs` : Adds `FileTypeMap(HashMap<Arc<str>, ExtendingVec<String>>)` with the full set of derives (`Debug`, `Clone`, `Default`, `PartialEq`, `Serialize`, `Deserialize`, `JsonSchema`, `MergeFrom`) and an `IntoIterator for &FileTypeMap` impl so existing call sites (`all_languages.file_types.iter().flatten()`) continue to work without changes. Changes the `file_types` field in `AllLanguageSettingsContent` from the raw HashMap to `Option<FileTypeMap>`. - `crates/settings/src/settings_store.rs` : In `configure_schema_generator`, adds a `replace_subschema::<FileTypeMap>` call mirroring the existing `LanguageToSettingsMap` one: injects installed language names as the allowed properties, with `ExtendingVec<String>` (array of glob patterns) as the value schema. Adds `test_file_types_schema_generation` to verify the injected properties. - `crates/settings/src/vscode_import.rs` : Updates `file_types()` to return `Option<FileTypeMap>` and wraps the constructed map accordingly. - `crates/language/src/buffer_tests.rs` : Updates the existing custom `file_types` test setup to extend the inner map of the new `FileTypeMap` wrapper explicitly, keeping the language crate test build passing after the type change. ## Self-Review Checklist - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [ ] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content is consistent with the UI/UX checklist - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable **Release Notes :** - Fixed language name autocomplete not working in the `file_types` setting --------- Co-authored-by: Kirill Bulatov <kirill@zed.dev> |

settings: Fix broken rustdoc intra-doc link in Settings::PRESERVED_KEYS (#61347)
## Objective The doc comment links for `Settings::PRESERVED_KEYS` point to `[FileContent](Self::FileContent)` but that associated type was removed by the settings refactor in https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/38367. `Settings::from_settings` now takes `&SettingsContent` directly. The dead link causes `rustdoc::broken_intra_doc_links` warnings when building docs for the `settings` crate: ``` warning: unresolved link to `Self::FileContent` --> crates/settings/src/settings_store.rs:61:53 | 61 | /// The name of the keys in the [`FileContent`](Self::FileContent) that should | ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ the trait `Settings` has no associated item named `FileContent` ``` Fixes #57310 ## Solution Replaced both `[FileContent](Self::FileContent)` occurrences in `crates/settings/src/settings_store.rs` with `[SettingsContent]`, which is already in scope via the existing `use` at the top of the file and resolves correctly. Docs-only change, no runtime behavior change. ## Testing - Verified with `cargo doc -p settings --no-deps`, which now completes without any `broken_intra_doc_links` warnings (previously emitted two). - No runtime code touched — doc comments only, so no other testing applies. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - N/A |

worktree_picker: Improve discoverability of tasks as a creation setup mechanism (#61148)
Sometimes when creating Git worktrees, it's necessary to set things up so the new worktree is ready. For example, copying env.vars, installing dependencies, etc. That was already possible in Zed through the tasks system, but you'd only maybe know about that if you read the documentation or is super familiar with it already; nothing in the product in the context of worktrees told you about that. This is what this PR does. Now, in the worktree picker, there's a "" button that opens the `tasks.json` file exposing the `create_worktree` hook, which allows you to plugin all sorts of things to be run by the time of a worktree creation. If you don't already have a `tasks.json` file, we will create a new one for you with a worktree-creation template. Otherwise, we either append the `create_worktree` hook content to it or just open the file. Here's a quick video: https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/21908be4-306b-4cf3-bed0-50d52cad9d79 Release Notes: - Git Worktrees: Improved discoverability of the `create_worktree` hook for setting up things that need to happen by the time of worktree creation. |

search: Add LSP location pickers for references, definitions, and diagnostics (#59838)
# Objective Closes #59829 Provide a filterable, preview-backed picker for LSP results as an alternative to the multi-buffer view, for references, definitions, implementations. ## Solution Update the 3 existing LSP actions (definitions, implementations, find all references) to add a `open_results_in` parameter which accepts either `multi_buffer` (default) or `picker` to show the results in a filterable picker with preview. This behavior can be configured globally in the settings via `lsp_results_location`. UX: - The 3 existing LSP actions each accept a `open_results_in` parameter so that each action can be configuring individually with a custom keybind - The `lsp_results_location` global setting can be used to set a default behavior with `open_results_in == None` - Go to definition falls back to find all references (if configured) on empty results which is consistent with the non-picker path - Results are grouped by file; each row shows the line number and the syntax-highlighted source line with the match emphasized. - Typing filters by line text or path; the preview updates with the selection. - Enter/click opens the selection, `cmd/ctrl-enter` opens it in a split, and re-invoking the command toggles the picker closed. - Empty results show a toast so the command never silently does nothing. - Note: the new pickers do not open on cmd-click, only when invoked via the command palette or keybind ## Testing - No automated tests yet — holding for first-round feedback on the approach and UX before adding tests. ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [ ] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [ ] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable ## Showcase https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/41538f23-9b54-4dfc-bfa7-a61564a675a8 --- Release Notes: - The find all references, go to definitions, and go to implementations LSP actions can be configured to open results in a picker with preview instead of a multibuffer. |

a11y: Landmarks and menu improvements (#60397)
Fixes menu a11y, and adds landmarks with `F6`-navigation. Also fixes a GPUI bug, and adds debug actions for dumping a11y tree info. Since `F6` was already in use by the pause debugger keybind, also tightens up the debugger keybind context so they require an active debugger session. When there is one active, `F6` stays as pause debugger. `ctrl-F6` always works to go to the next landmark. Also adds an "accessible mode" setting. Currently, this only controls whether we show all menus all the time, but I suspect it will expand significantly in the future. Also adds `.aria_keyshortcuts()` API, but it's not wired up within accesskit adapters, so is not yet reported to screen readers. --- Release Notes: - N/A or Added/Fixed/Improved ... |

Add support for format_on_save only changed lines (#49964)
## Summary Introduces `format_on_save` variants that format only modified lines, limiting formatting to lines changed since the last commit. This prevents massive diffs when editing legacy codebases. Aligns with VS Code's `editor.formatOnSaveMode` naming: - `"modifications"` — formats only git-diffed lines. Requires source control; skips formatting if no diff is available. - `"modifications_if_available"` — formats only git-diffed lines, falling back to full-file formatting for untracked files, when source control is unavailable, or when the LSP does not support range formatting. Also supports importing equivalent VS Code settings (`formatOnSaveMode`). This PR uses the range-based whitespace/newline infrastructure from the dependency PR above. ## Changes <details> <summary><b>New settings, modified ranges computation, VS Code import</b></summary> ### New settings (`language.rs`, `default.json`, `all-settings.md`) Two new `FormatOnSave` variants: `Modifications` and `ModificationsIfAvailable`. ### Modified ranges computation (`items.rs`) - `compute_format_decision()` — reads `format_on_save` setting across all buffers, determines whether to use ranged formatting (`Ranges`), full formatting (`Full`), or skip (`Skip`). - `compute_modified_ranges()` — extracts modified line ranges from git diff hunks via `BufferDiffSnapshot`. - `is_empty_range()` — helper to detect deletion-only hunks that produce no formatable content. The `save()` method calls `compute_format_decision()` and dispatches accordingly. ### Modifications mode in `lsp_store.rs` - Adds `FormatOnSave::Modifications | FormatOnSave::ModificationsIfAvailable` to the formatter selection match arm. - `ModificationsIfAvailable` falls back to full-file formatting when ranged formatting produces no results. ### VS Code settings import (`vscode_import.rs`, `settings_store.rs`) Imports `editor.formatOnSaveMode` mapping: - `"modifications"` → `FormatOnSave::Modifications` - `"modificationsIfAvailable"` → `FormatOnSave::ModificationsIfAvailable` - `"file"` → `FormatOnSave::On` </details> ## Tests - `test_modifications_format_on_save` — basic modifications mode formatting with dirty buffer - `test_modifications_format_no_changes` — clean buffer triggers no formatting - `test_modifications_format_lsp_no_range_support` — LSP without range formatting skips entirely for `Modifications` - `test_modifications_format_lsp_returns_empty_edits` — empty edits handled gracefully - `test_modifications_format_multiple_hunks` — two non-adjacent edits produce two separate range formatting requests --- Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content is consistent with the [UI/UX checklist](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable Closes #16509 Depends on #53942 Release Notes: - Added `modifications` and `modifications_if_available` options to `format_on_save`, which format only git-changed lines instead of the entire file - When using modifications mode, `remove_trailing_whitespace_on_save` and `ensure_final_newline_on_save` are also scoped to changed lines, preventing unwanted diff jitter in legacy codebases - Added support for importing VS Code's `editor.formatOnSaveMode` setting --------- Co-authored-by: Kirill Bulatov <kirill@zed.dev> |

terminal: Open links with Cmd/Ctrl-click when mouse mode is enabled (#60067)
This fixes #56956. The terminal link-open gesture was split between `mouse_down` and `mouse_up`, but both halves only ran in the non-mouse-reporting path. When a foreground app enabled terminal mouse reporting, a secondary click on a URL or file path was forwarded to the PTY instead of opening the link. This changes secondary-click link handling so it checks for a hyperlink before mouse reporting on press, and completes the matching hyperlink open before mouse reporting on release. The event is only consumed when the click actually lands on the same link, so normal clicks in mouse-reporting TUIs continue to be forwarded as before. Validation: - `CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=1 cargo test -j1 -p terminal test_hyperlink_ctrl_click_same_position_in_mouse_mode` - `CARGO_BUILD_JOBS=1 cargo check -j1 -p terminal` Release Notes: - Improved terminal links: Cmd/Ctrl-click now opens links even when the application has mouse reporting enabled (e.g. vim, opencode, claude). Disable `terminal.open_links_in_mouse_mode` to forward these clicks to the application instead. --------- Co-authored-by: Smit Barmase <heysmitbarmase@gmail.com> |

keymap_editor: Fix deleting and editing bindings that use deprecated action names (#60300)
# Objective
In the keymap editor, bindings whose `keymap.json` entries use a
deprecated action alias (e.g. `"editor::CopyRelativePath"` for
`workspace::CopyRelativePath`) could not be deleted or edited. Aliases
resolve to the canonical action on load, so the row displays normally,
but file updates searched for the canonical name and never matched the
alias entry. Deleting failed ("Failed to find keybinding to remove"),
and editing silently fell back to appending a new binding — leaving the
user with duplicate identical-looking rows they couldn't remove.
## Solution
- Thread gpui's deprecated-alias map
(`App::deprecated_actions_to_preferred_actions`) into
`KeymapFile::update_keybinding`, and resolve aliases in file entries
when matching bindings.
- As a side effect, editing an alias-based binding now rewrites the
entry with the canonical action name instead of duplicating it.
## Testing
- Unit tests in `settings` for removing and replacing alias-based
entries.
- End-to-end keymap editor tests (fake fs → keymap load → `KeymapEditor`
→ delete) covering both the alias case and plain duplicate bindings.

Disable format-on-save by default (#59710)
# Objective Prevent the unexpected modification of files which do not have established formatting conventions. Enabling format-on-save by default can cause changes in ecosystems that don't have established official formatting conventions, or when the formatting conventions came later through new tools (like JavaScript). fixes #59427 ## Solution This PR inverts the default, choosing to disable format-on-save by default, and allowing it to be enabled by users at a global or language level for any language which has an official formatter. However, any ecosystem which has an official formatter has been left enabled. This means languages like Rust, Go, and Zig have `format_on_save` enabled because they come with official formatting tools, while JavaScript, C/C++, and Markdown have it disabled by default. For existing users, this means their custom configurations will stay, but any values that were previously "default" will be updated. ## Testing - open a file for the language being tested (ex: `python`) - formatting should only be enabled if the default for the *language* is enabled - formatting can be enabled or disabled at the language level or the global level in the settings ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable --- Release Notes: - Disable format-on-save by default, except for languages with official formatters |

markdown_preview: Add font size settings and actions (#55489)
Add support for scaling the Markdown preview's body text and headings with `cmd-=` / `cmd--` / `cmd-0`. Previously these shortcuts only resized code blocks because the preview's body used `ui_font_size` and headings used a rem-based scale anchored to it, while the keybindings only mutated `BufferFontSize`. The preview's scroll subtree is now wrapped in `WithRemSize(buffer_font_size)`, so `1rem` resolves to the buffer font size inside the preview. Body text, headings (`text_3xl`/`text_2xl`/...), and rem-based spacing all scale together. The outer focus root and scrollbar remain at the UI font size. Add preview to pickers and make them resizable (#59604)
Overhauls Zed's pickers to make them resizable and give them a preview. Closes #8279 ### Background The most requested Zed feature has the last year has been a [Telescope like search box](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/8279) [discussion](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/discussions/22581). To understand why this is so popular we need to understand search can serve thee goals: - Navigation: fuzzy search is faster & easier then clicking in a file tree - Exploration: example, find a function by a word in its doc comment - Collecting: example, getting a list of functions to change The project search which shows results in a multibuffer is the perfect way to operate on a list of items. Navigation and Exploration need a lot of context around each result and offer fast navigation between them. For both of these live searching is also critical. The `telescope UI` is a picker with a preview to the right or below. It's offered in various editors and IDE's most famously Neovim (through the Telescope plugin), IntelliJ (natively), Helix (natively) and of course VScode (plugins) and it's _many_ forks. While having a UI like that for text search (our project search) is most requested the UX pattern is applied widely, from `find_all_references` to `bookmarks`. It enhances most pickers. Note that we have over 50 different picker modals! The community has tried to build something like this for Zed: - https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/44530 - https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/45307 - https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/46478 - https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/43790 These all became huge PR's that we could not merge for various reasons. This is a really hard feature to integrate in Zed! This PR got started as https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/46478 and supercedes that. ### Design - Extend pickers to support an optional preview with minimal changes to the pickers themselves. - Make pickers resizable. - Complement the existing search do not replace it by having both UI's share the underlying search and allow freely switching between them. - Allow extending the preview to things other then files. - Maintain a clean design on all the pickers. ### Heigh level Implementation overview - Adds an `Option<Preview>` to `Picker` - Gives `PickerDelegate` a method to communicate a preview to the Picker - Overhaul the way pickers are drawn to allow for resizing them. Implemented on the `Shape` and `SizeBouds` structs. - Adds a high level way to draw the `footer` and `editor` so we do not need to change much to the pickers. - Adds a new text finder Picker - Adds a way to take a running search from project search and hand it to the text finder Picker and the other way round - Give the file finder a preview ### Next steps A more detailed list and how to help out will be added to the tracking issue for [Pickes with previews](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/issues/56037) - Add more previews to more pickers! - Enable selectioning multiple items in pickers and performing actions on those - Open selected items in a multibuffer - Add a way to restore the last picker - Make popovers (picker attached to some menu) resizable as well ## Self-Review Checklist: - [x] I've reviewed my own diff for quality, security, and reliability - [x] Unsafe blocks (if any) have justifying comments - [x] The content adheres to Zed's UI standards ([UX/UI](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md#uiux-checklist) and [icon](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/blob/main/crates/icons/README.md) guidelines) - [x] Tests cover the new/changed behavior - [x] Performance impact has been considered and is acceptable ## Showcase TODO (will be done post merge) --- Release Notes: - Added resizing via dragging to all picker modals. - Added a preview to the File finder, the preview can be to the right or below. - Added a Text finder picker with a preview as alternative project search UI. The search is shared and allowes switch between UIs while running. --------- Co-authored-by: ozacod <47009516+ozacod@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: ozacod <ozacod@users.noreply.github.com> Co-authored-by: Danilo Leal <daniloleal09@gmail.com> |
