# Objective
Keep Git-specific diff-base knowledge in `GitStore`, where Git
operations are defined.

- Make word movement and selection predictable around punctuation.
- Prior art: [#58882](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/58882),
[#61916](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/pull/61916), and their

## Solution
- Treat words and punctuation runs as separate movement units in both
directions.
- This adds a stop between leading punctuation and its following word,
such as `.▏foo`.
## Testing
- Added table-driven coverage for reported examples, delimiters,
operators, punctuation runs, and Unicode punctuation.

Release Notes:
- Editor: Fixed auto-indent occasionally using stale syntax after rapid
edits.
# Objective
Follow-up to #62028. When archiving removed a thread's workspace, the
replacement
was derived from whichever sidebar row sat adjacent to the archived one.
Rows are
a flat list with project headers as separators, so archiving the oldest
thread in
a project selected the next project's newest thread and moved the user
out of the
project they were working in — and when that neighbor was remote,
connected to
its host just to pick a fallback.
# Solution
- `MultiWorkspace::remove` now chooses the replacement itself from a
`RemovalIntent` (keep the project vs close it): a live workspace in the
same
project, the project's own roots when kept, the nearest retained
neighbor,
an adjacent local project, then an empty workspace. The workspaces being
removed are excluded from that search in one place instead of five.
- Sidebar neighbor selection stays within the entry's project section.
- The three archive paths now share one removal orchestration, and the
three
"open the closed workspace first" helpers collapse into one.
# Testing
New tests cover: the keep-project fallback, neighbor selection staying
inside the
project section, and archiving with a mock-remote neighboring project
never
connecting to it. Each was verified to fail against the previous
behavior.

# Objective
Fix the `fallback workspace must not be one of the workspaces being
removed` panic.
Fixes FR-148
Fixes ZED-AKR
Fixes ZED-97M
# Solution
The remote path of `find_or_create_workspace` opened a project, then
returned the
window's *active* workspace instead of the one it created. The open
awaits toolchain
loading and item restoration, and a save prompt from a concurrent
workspace removal
can re-activate a workspace being removed during that wait; the stale
return value
then trips the assert in `MultiWorkspace::remove`.
Return the created workspace from `open_remote_project_inner` and use it
at the
call sites instead of re-reading the active workspace after the await.
# Testing
Added
`test_find_or_create_workspace_returns_the_created_remote_workspace`:
opens a
mock remote project and re-activates the previous workspace mid-open
(standing in
for the save prompt), then asserts the open returns the workspace it
created.
Verified it fails against the pre-fix behavior.

Release Notes:
- N/A
# Objective
- Fixes#59409. Closes FR-143. Zed's managed npm directory reaches
10–17GB on machines that use
external agents, and is never pruned.
- Two independent causes: registry agents are launched with `npm exec`,
which keys its
install directory on the requested version, so every agent release
leaves a full
~250MB copy behind; and npm never evicts anything from its download
cache.
## Solution
- Install registry agents into a directory we reuse, so npm replaces the
previous
version in place instead of accumulating one copy per release. As a side
effect,
updates now download only the changed dependencies rather than the whole
tree.
- Empty the download cache on startup. Nothing in it needs to survive a
restart, since
packages are installed elsewhere. It has to go wholesale: deleting
individual
downloads leaves npm's index pointing at missing files, and npm then
fails with
`ENOENT` rather than fetching them again.
- The first launch after this does one full agent install as it moves
into its new
home, and reclaims whatever the old directories were holding.
## Testing
- Installed the real agent at 0.33.1, then upgraded to 0.42.0 in the
same directory:
253MB → 256MB, against two separate copies today. The resolved
executable answers an
ACP `initialize`.
- macOS only. Windows deserves a look — it should be better than before,
since the
agent is now launched as a plain `.js` file with Node instead of through
npm's `.cmd`
shim, but I can't verify it.

Release Notes:
- Agent: Fixed agents not recognizing follow-up messages as denial of
pending tool calls.
# Objective
Fix a nightly crash where Zed aborts on a bounds-check panic in the
inlay hint cache.
`LspStore::inlay_hints` captures a `RowChunk` before awaiting the
language server, then reads the hint cache with that chunk's id
afterwards. If the buffer shrank meanwhile, `latest_lsp_data` has
already rebuilt the cache with fewer chunks, so the stale id indexes out
of bounds. Chunks are 50 rows, so the reported crash only needed a
~150-250 line deletion, not a drastic edit.
Regressed in #61523. Nightly only; the regressing commit is in no
release tag, so this never reached preview or stable.
Fixes ZED-AGY
Fixes FR-142
## Solution
- Return an empty result when the buffer version no longer matches, so a
stale chunk id can never index the rebuilt cache. The stale *writes*
were already guarded by this version check; only the read sat outside
it.
- An empty result is already treated as "not fetched", so the chunk is
simply re-requested on the next refresh.
## Testing
`test_inlay_hint_response_after_buffer_shrinks` reproduces the abort
deterministically and passes with the fix. Note that it drives the race
through a fake language server rather than a real one.

Closes FR-139
Most focus-lost issues that close the agent panel in Zen mode stem from
panels returning a transient child editor's focus handle from
`Focusable::focus_handle`. The Zen-mode check closes the zoomed panel
when the focused element is not a descendant of the panel's focus
handle, so any focus movement inside the panel that landed outside that
child editor looked like the panel losing focus.
This PR separates the two roles that handle was serving:
- `Focusable::focus_handle` now always returns a stable handle tracked
at the panel's root element, used for containment checks (Zen-mode
auto-close, `toggle_panel_focus`, dock focus subscriptions).
- The new `Panel::activation_focus_handle` returns what should receive
focus when the panel is activated (e.g. a filter/commit/message editor)
and must be a focus-tree descendant of the root handle. All "focus the
panel" callsites in workspace/dock now use it.
Migrated panels: `AgentPanel` (including thread views and the toolbar
title editor), `CollabPanel`, `GitPanel`, `OutlinePanel`, and
`TerminalPanel` (previously delegated to the active pane, so focus in a
non-active pane dropped containment). `CollabPanel` activation falls
back to the panel root when signed out or collaboration is disabled,
since the filter editor isn't rendered in those states. Also fixes
duplicate element ids for tool calls with multiple content blocks.
Tests: a regression test that clicks tool-call output and focuses the
thread title editor while zoomed (both previously closed Zen mode), and
a dock-level test asserting the activation handle receives focus on
panel activation while the panel root reports containment.
Release Notes:
- Fixed zoomed panels (e.g. the agent panel in Zen mode) closing
unexpectedly when focus moved to elements inside the panel, such as tool
call output or the thread title editor.

Closes EP-193
Edit prediction context collection previously reused the editor
goto-definition / goto-type-definition path, which resolves every LSP
result into a `LocationLink` — opening a buffer per target (worktree
creation, buffer registration, anchor conversion) before edit prediction
gets a chance to filter. On remote projects the host additionally
created a peer-visible buffer per link and the client waited on each
one.
This adds a bespoke request path that returns raw results first and only
does the expensive work for results that survive filtering:
- New `EditPredictionDefinition { path: ProjectPath, range:
Range<Unclipped<PointUtf16>> }` boundary type. LSP wire types never
leave `lsp_command.rs`; the workspace-only filter and URI→`ProjectPath`
resolution happen while normalizing the LSP response, before any buffer
exists, so the type encodes the workspace-only invariant.
- New `GetEditPredictionDefinitions` /
`GetEditPredictionTypeDefinitions` LSP commands and proto messages.
Responses carry only path + UTF-16 range — the host never calls
`create_buffer_for_peer` and the client never waits on remote buffers.
- One public API: `Project::edit_prediction_definitions(buffer,
position, include_type_definitions, cx)` fires both LSP requests
concurrently and returns a merged, deduped list ("not capable" = empty).
The definition/type-definition split was never used downstream, so
`CacheEntry` now holds a single list and the fetch pipeline runs one
task per identifier.
- `edit_prediction_context` dedupes raw results before opening buffers;
survivors open via `project.open_buffer(ProjectPath)` (skipping the
invisible-worktree/yarn machinery of `open_local_buffer_via_lsp`, and
working identically on remote projects), then clip → anchor →
`MAX_TARGET_LEN`.
- Removes the `workspace_only` flag from `GetDefinitions` /
`GetTypeDefinitions`: edit prediction was its only user. The editor path
always sent `false`, which proto3 doesn't encode, so normal
goto-definition requests are wire-identical; old peers still sending
`true` get unfiltered results (graceful degradation). The proto field
numbers are `reserved`.
Tested with a local test proving filtering precedes buffer opening (an
out-of-workspace target never spawns a worktree, an oversized target is
excluded from related files) and a collab test proving the remote
round-trip returns correct paths/ranges without opening buffers on the
client.

# Objective
Allow zed's language model stack to express OpenAI Responses API custom
tools (freeform text-input tools with an optional lark/regex grammar),
so downstream consumers can offer tools like a freeform `apply_patch` to
GPT models.
## Solution
- `LanguageModelRequestTool` now carries a Function-vs-Custom input
variant; `LanguageModelCustomToolFormat` models text/grammar formats.
- `LanguageModelToolUse.input` becomes a typed
`LanguageModelToolUseInput::{Json, Text}`. Serialization is tagged so
persisted Text inputs round-trip losslessly; legacy plain JSON values
still deserialize as `Json`.
- `open_ai` gains the custom tool wire types (tool definition,
`custom_tool_call`/`custom_tool_call_output` input items with
string-or-content-part outputs, output item, and
`custom_tool_call_input` delta/done stream events). The Responses event
mapper accumulates raw text deltas into `ToolUse` events, and history
replay derives custom-vs-function tool results from the matching
`ToolUse` by id.
- All non-OpenAI providers and the Chat Completions path error
explicitly when a request contains custom tools — no silent drops or
empty-schema coercions.

# Objective
Fix a Windows CI flake in `extension_host
extension_store_test::test_extension_store_with_test_extension`, which
panicked in GPUI's leak detector with three leaked `LspStore` handles
([example
run](https://github.com/zed-industries/zed/actions/runs/28871529605/job/85635418351)).
## Solution
`LspAccess::ViaLspStore` held a strong `Entity<LspStore>`, cloned into
three `ExtensionHostProxy` registrations by `language_extension::init`.
The proxy sits inside an `Arc` cycle (proxy →
`LanguageServerRegistryProxy` → `LanguageRegistry` →
`ExtensionLspAdapter` → `WasmExtension` → `WasmHost` → proxy), so
whenever an extension LSP adapter was registered at app-drop time, the
cycle pinned the `LspStore` entity after its owning `Project` dropped.
The flake was purely timing: extension reload toggles the adapter
registration, and an unclean LSP pipe shutdown on Windows shifted
teardown into the pinned window.
`ViaLspStore` now holds a `WeakEntity<LspStore>`, upgraded at its sole
use site (`remove_language_server`), skipping the stop task when the
store is gone — matching the existing `ViaWorkspaces` semantics. A dead
store is the expected terminal state after the owning project drops, so
no error is logged or propagated. `Project`/`HeadlessProject` remain the
sole long-term owners of `LspStore`, which is already the convention
everywhere else (e.g. `json_schema_store`, the `lsp_store` message
handlers).
## Testing
- Ran `cargo nextest run -p extension_host
extension_store_test::test_extension_store_with_test_extension` locally:
passes.
- The flake is timing-dependent (reproduced on Windows CI), so a local
pass doesn't prove absence; the fix removes the only strong non-owner
handle, which the leak detector reported.

StreamReader::poll_next dropped the reader it take()s whenever the read
returned Poll::Pending, so the next poll reported end-of-stream. And
poll_read_buf measured bytes via ReadBuf::filled(), which never advances
when the reader writes through initialize_unfilled(), so every read
counted as zero bytes. Together these made any AsyncBody::from_reader
request body (e.g. one backed by async_fs::File, which returns Pending
on its first read) upload as an empty or truncated body.
Keep the reader across Pending polls and use the byte count that
futures::AsyncRead::poll_read returns.

but file updates searched for the canonical name and never matched the
alias entry. Deleting failed ("Failed to find keybinding to remove"),
and editing silently fell back to appending a new binding — leaving the
user with duplicate identical-looking rows they couldn't remove.
## Solution
- Thread gpui's deprecated-alias map
(`App::deprecated_actions_to_preferred_actions`) into
`KeymapFile::update_keybinding`, and resolve aliases in file entries
when matching bindings.
- As a side effect, editing an alias-based binding now rewrites the
entry with the canonical action name instead of duplicating it.
## Testing
- Unit tests in `settings` for removing and replacing alias-based
entries.
- End-to-end keymap editor tests (fake fs → keymap load → `KeymapEditor`
→ delete) covering both the alias case and plain duplicate bindings.

- Fixed the keymap editor failing to delete or edit key bindings whose
keymap file entries use deprecated action names
# Objective
Closes EP-202
Prevent V4 edit predictions from leaking `<|user_cursor|>` markers into
users' buffers.
## Solution
- Strip cursor marker text from emitted prediction edits, including when
`text_diff` splits the marker across edit fragments.
- Preserve literal marker-like text that already exists in the buffer.
## Testing
- `cargo test -p edit_prediction prediction_edits_for_single_file_diff
-- --nocapture`
- `cargo test -p edit_prediction --lib`
- `cargo fmt --check`

We currently run node on the JS wrapper around the native binaries
shipped with https://github.com/github/copilot-language-server-release.

just an option provided so that you can run the server with `npx`.

only grouping by repo when instructed too (repo grouping is only useful
for context collection)

Release Notes:
- Linux/WSL: Added polling filesystem watching support in order to
support file watching on file systems that do emit events through
`inotify`, for example `/mnt/c` in WSL, network filesystems, and FUSE
mounts. Polling should be automatically chosen over `inotify` when
necessary, however it can be manually chosen by setting the
`ZED_FILE_WATCHER_MODE=poll` env var

Closes#52115
## Context
Removes the third party edit prediction integration for Sweep AI ahead
of their servers shutting down.
This PR will not affect those who are already use or plan to use their
open weighted models. The code removed by this PR was required for
integrating with their proprietary API.

## Context
We currently mark the current prediction as "shown" when the subtle mode
indicator appears. This doesn't really make sense. We make an effort
elsewhere to differentiate between a user rejecting a prediction that
they viewed vs. never saw in order to compute accurate metrics.
